| And? Your point is? So what if it does, who would use an elite compound on a cheap aluminum HS/F anyways? Are you trying to make it sound like it is a really bad thing? It's just a compound of nickle and two other metals IIRC, nothing noxious, just reacts with aluminum, so what, who cares since almost no serious heat sinks have an aluminum base!
I've been using it for more than a year now with good results.

| Didnt I read somewhere that it takes 48 hours to get out of its liquid state? Do you have to let it sit that long before you can turn it sideways or is it applied so thin that nothing will run.

| It won't run unless your a dummy and apply WAY too much, it clings on. You use a #2 paintbrush clipped short of the bristles. You put a ball on as small as can be and spread it all you can. Then if you need to ad more, you do to get it all over, spreading it takes time and patience, and should NOT be done inside the case or on the mainboard or any board because little balls will flick off that are conductive unless you are very skilled.
I didn't wait at all, didn't have to. It is supposed to be applied very very thin and can be applied more thin, by far, than AS5, for instance. Time and patience.

clubs: | Be sure to buy a can of brasso, that is what you use to clean it when you need to remove it and re apply. It is a job to remove, but just because it takes time, took me about 10 minutes to clean with brasso, then Arctic Clean 1 and 2... |

TIM is about as important to overclocking and performance as the color of the pcb is. The difference between them is negligible and not worth the hassle of some "elite compound". It is just snakeoil.
Just buy a quality heatsink and use the tim that came with it. Why would they include it if it was going to raise the temp?

It isn't that what they use as a default material will cause temps to rise, but that some materials may provide a small margin of slightly cooler temps, by being more efficient in transferring heat. That slim margin of a few degrees can be the difference between a higher stable over clock and a lower one. For those who are squeezing every ounce of performance from their rigs, that small margin can be a significant difference.
An Australian guy on the web (don't have link) years ago did a shoot out of TIM, and found that many initially cool equally to one another. This included such esoteric substances as Vegemite and toothpaste. It's a very funny article, and you can tell he is poking fun at serious over clockers, but he also makes the point at the end that many of the materials used, while initially cooling just fine, will break down in undesirable ways in a very short time, thus reducing or completely disrupting their ability to transfer heat. That can be one of the differences between dedicated TIM products and whatever comes with a heat sink.
The more sophisticated materials will last longer, keeping their properties intact. For someone trying to get that last few MHz of speed, it can be of use.
Doesn't mean stock coolers with stock materials are a bad thing - they usually are not. But once you begin to push hardware beyond stock, small things can make large differences.
