| reply to Packeteers Re: DSL is Latency Solution
My pings on AT&T DSL were around 100-150ms and Cox HSI is only 50-60ms max. I was 12-15,000 ft. from the CO. The Tech told me they needed a remote DSLAM. The Cox terminal is right outside. Cox upgraded a lot after Hurricane Ivan and for Digital Phone.
DSL is only great if a 10/1 connection and less than 3,000 ft. to the CO/DSLAM. My DSL at less than 3,000 ft. to the CO in another city was about 7.5/900 instead of 6/768.
And, if the wiring sucks, it doesn't matter anyway. I found if I got a lousy Dial-up connection DSL wasn't going to be anything special.
