Phone # says one speed, address says another

Hello All,

Just for a laugh, I went to see if my line qualified for a faster speed. I first put in my TN & it says I already have the fastest avail (1.5), then I decided to try my address & it said that my address qualified for 3 & last time I did an address check it also only showed 1.5.

To my understanding the phone # qual is what my line actually qualifies for & the address was if they were to install a line.

So my questions

1) Am I'm getting a false-positive (on the address qual), or is it possible that since my address shows a higher speed, that it might still need to still flow thru the system to show my phone # as qualifying for faster. I know there are faster speeds coming (not sure if in my area or not), & maybe figured this might be a start of that

2) What is the possibility of, if I was to get a 2nd line installed that it would qualify for the faster speed

It could go either way. When I put my address in, it says I can only get 1.5 but I currently have naked 3meg...go figure.

Call Qwest. I haven't worked there since November but this happens occasionally. What happened then and probably does now, is that an escalation form is submitted up to do a more thorough "background" test to see if you truly qual for 3 or only 1.5

Within a week or 2, they will get back with you, depending on how long it takes (and how many requests of this matter are backlogged).

Good luck. I tried to have them do something to find a pair for 5meg on my pole and they told me "No, we dont do that." I even said I would pay the $90 for an hour of tech time and they still said no.

Ok, load coils are removed. Bridge taps removed. But to just up speed from one pair to another? If you have dsl ok. But to up the speed maybe can be done, but not always. So more info would be good. Just distance alone. Gauge of wire. Other odd taps.
After some point it does become useless trying to get more dsl speed. Special circuits cost more so they get special treatment. Plus they can also have stuff to extend the range. But that does cost. Like T1 or hicap etc.

So I called & was pretty much told that even though my # & address showed two different speeds, the only way I could get it at the moment was to either wait & see if my line actually shows it qualifies faster or to order a 2nd line & take a gamble that it won't qualify for the faster speed.

So my questions are:

1) Since my address/ phone # show differently, does this mean that the new line would come from a different co/rt, or more then likely the same co/rt that I am connected to now?

2) If it came from a different co/rt, would they need to run new wires from the junction box outside to inside?

The reason is that I live in a apt complex & would want to use the wires that are already running inside.

A couple reasons why I am thinking about taking the gamble are, I want to change the phone # anyways & since it looks like the most it would be is around $50, I figured I have lost a lot more going to a casino.

Thanks!!

@qwest.net

The qualification tool looks at several factors to determine the speed available. Your line only qualifies for 1.5, but if the tool is showing that your address qualifies for 3M then then you could add a 2nd line or a standalone dsl line that would get provisioned at 3M. If your apartment is wired for 2 lines then I would setup your service on a seperate bill and then disconnect the other account. If you want to try it let me know.

Disconnecting and reconnecting won't do anything for you since they would still be using the same pair to get you service.

Hi Folks,

I made another call & the rep said that he would look into it. About an hour or so later, I got a call back saying that for some reason on the upgrade to the terminal, my # wasn't updated to reflect the change & that they had to update my #. Now both my # & address both show I can get the upgrade.

Thanks Everyone
