Does the free converter (DCT700) come with remote control?

I don't have the time to read the entire thread to see if this got fixed, but this happened to me because the adapter was not properly activated. One call to the FSC and they sent the activation signal and it took care of it.

Judging from your question Dan, I guess you did not receive the letter Verizon is sending out to FiOS TV customers telling them about the transition from analog to digital on channels 2 through 49. Since you're from NJ (so am I), the transition will begin in June. Anyway, the letter says that they are offering free digital adapters (limit 3 according to what I was told on the phone by Verizon) for TV sets that currently do not have a digital adapter, set top box, DVR or cablecard. In order to receive them free, you must be a current FiOS TV customer and reside at the same address. The digital adapter cannot view VOD, widgets or IMG nor can it receive HD or record. According to the letter I had received, Northern NJ FiOS TV customers have until April 30 to get the free adapters. I received mine from UPS on Monday (I had ordered last Thursday). I followed the easy instructions, called the activation number and I was able to receive all the channels I subscribe to in less than 15 minutes (the instructions said 30 minutes but mine was activated in less than that). I sure hope that I don't get billed for my free digital adapter when my next bill comes. I have heard that some customers have been charged for them plus a $19.99 installation fee which is ridiculous since the digital adapters are self-installed.

I also received my boxes today, and they initially didn't work. Called Verizon, and had them do an STB reset, and everything worked.

I called, they zapped, and it works.

For the record, there were two attempts at activation, one auto-bot reset, and one live person reset.

FSC tech said he has a number of things he can do. When I told him the auto-bot reset gave me partial results, he did whatever he did, and it now works. He said he could have issued the weakest command, but he did something a step above that.

Thanks all for your assistance, including the FSC person.

I'll say it again here. I have not had a billing or service problem that was not resolved to my satisfaction when I talked to a Verizon person.

According to the notification letter, you should get all the channels you have subscribed to except the HD stuff (although they don't specifically state that in the letter):
quote:
"This simple-to-install equipment connects to your television set and allows you to view all of the same channels that you receive on other TV's in your home."
From what I've read here, the DCT-700 does NOT pull an IP from the router, hence, no guide, widgets or VOD either. So, you should not see it in the router's device list.

Do you have the on screen display?
Yes, but not observed until this morning. I think I tried pushing the Menu button yesterday but had no response.

When I first plugged my boxes in I got the same thing as you, I could only get the channels under 100 and there was no channel or time indicator on screen. Shortly after I completed the online activation and the boxes rebooted a couple time, I had everything I subscribe to and also got an on screen display of channel number, time, and a Verizon logo.

Do you have the on screen display?

Sounds like the box might just be passing the signal through and not decoding it.
Except I have to use the remote to select channels because the TV is set to reception on channel 3.

Just in case, I connected via component video, and have to select my TV's channel 91 for AV input. Same results.

I am in the process of asking for a reboot of the STB, but will get that through an agent, rather than the auto-bot.

Currently, so I can eliminate everything except the box, I have coax coming out to a splitter, the output of which goes to the STB and the DCT. RF from STB and AV from DCT feeds the TV. In previous trials, I have swapped one box for the other with the same results, so I don't think the signal strength is a factor. With or without the splitter.

The router log showed evidence of my changing things out, so I wired everything up, and rebooted the router as well.

Will post this afternoon my results. Duty calls now, will play later.

Thanks for your suggestions.

Added: In the past, before triple play, my account did have local channels only provisioned. This may be a hold over from previous.

Also, is the DCT supposed to show up as a device in the Actiontec Connections? Right now, only the QP-2500 is visible, including in the MoCA Diagnostics page.

Sounds like the box might just be passing the signal through and not decoding it. Obviously, if it's just passing through, the box isn't doing anything and you're getting 2-49 as if the cable is hooked directly to the TV.

Triple check the cable from the wall is going to the input of the converter and the output to the TV.

DCT700 details.

Version 04.10
Build 20071005-1512
Firmware 03.18
Platform ID 176

Maybe these are newer ones that are being specifically targeted to the GoDigital project, different than the ones being distributed for fee.

If your free DCT700 converts all channels, are your hardware details the same?
I have four DCT700's with the same details, and I get all channels, including premiums.

I've installed a few dozen so far and everyone of them has gotten all of the channels subscribed to. I would call the FSC and tell them to hit that box again to see if it brings up the remaining channels.

There is either something wrong with that converter or the signal going to the converter is not strong enough.
Connected it in the same place, and to the same TV that the QP-STB is, and with the same cables. 2-49 only.
