It's amazing ... all it takes is a monopoly and you can sell a turd to millions.

I would take uverse over time warner cable any day in my area. of course if i could get dish i would too.

U verse support has actually been quite good where time warner is sure to tick off whoever calls. Time warner is known to have long holdtimes, rude people, and a reputation of NOT getting things done, or understanding the problem. At least in this area.

I hardly think at&t has a monopoly in the Greensboro/High Point area if that is what your post suggests... I live here too

Did you have a bad time with your Uverse experience to consider it a turd? Oh wait, it hasn't been deployed here yet.

I wonder how long I should give notice to cancel my land-line?
My Sprint SERO line is working pretty well. The EVDO is good. I already gave notice to my ISP Cruzio.

There is not a monopoly in my area. There is at least one other option.

Sometimes all it takes is an alternative being 'promoted'.
Not everyone is always happy with cable (grass is always greener on the other side, so to speak).
The biggest problem that I have with Uverse is that I would have to order TV service to get Internet, then 'cancel' the TV service afterwards.

They do have a monopoly, even if you have a choice for DSL. They control the wire line and any ISP has to buy the circuit from ATT.
In my area ATT has been raising the wholesale prices to the local ISP's and lowering their own to the public to kill off the competition.

Yeah, but it's not about choosing the service with the options, service, prices, speeds etc you want.

It's about picking the lesser of two evils...

Frankly, I was wanting to give U-verse a try, but It's not going to happen now--- they've jacked up the price too much. Dish Network + broadband FTW IMHO.

i didnt want to go att but i was so tired with time warner i decided to go for it. It seems like a beta app but i like it for now. if cox communication serviced this area i would be gone in a heartbeat though.

So VOIP, Cable telephone & cell/wireless isn't an alternative?

The original poster was talking about Uverse by the way... which competes with cable & satellite. No monopoly, sorry.

Maybe when they implement DocSis 3 it will be a comparable alternative. To me, the overloading of the nodes of cable doesn't even put it in the same ballpark of quality as xDSL.

Cell/Wireless is also catching up to what I use connectivity for, it's close enough now for me to switch, but it is not the same quality.

ATT and the other cannibal children of the old Bell system own most of the wireline infrastructure of the US, so at some point cable and wireless pass through their control.

And it seems like in ohio, crappy service and time warner go hand in hand, i have not herd one area of ohio that has had these isues, should be easy picking for at&t as long as they get it right.
