Re: this is innovation?

AT&T will become what AOL was in the world of Dialup...
Content, browser, email and portal controller.

And then the grim reaper will come and put it in its final resting place. Geez, Comcast is looking better all the time.

Re: this is innovation?

Basically its a case of 'pick your poison'.

AT&T
- AT&T sniffing/playing police with media as content police
- Eavesdropping on your phone lines with NSA
- Reselling who knows what data and to whom
- High priced MS IPTV (don't need to spy on anyone.. Windows CE STB's will do it w/o issue)
- Forced bundle of TV for VoIP or Internet

Comcast
- Network management practices = bad news for many
- High(er) priced than most others
- Moving basic tiers to higher end packages - and disputes with content providers (Big10?)

I think I'll stay on the indie ISP and DirecTv for a while longer. I was able to get 4 channels of HDA OTA with a set of basic rabbit ears - I wonder what a 'real' antenna would get me. My inlaws get 53 OTA HD channels in the San Fernando Valley.
