I just handed in my 30 days notice to rogers. When should I contact TS about getting my new internet service so that they don't overlap and yet have the least downtime? |

3 edits | I contacted them the day of my 30 day notice, and they changed it over during the business day, so when I got home, voila! I made sure Bell Canada gave me a cancellation number and date, which I told to TSI. Not sure about Rogers, but I'm sure they have some sort of confirmation number, though prob won't apply since they are cable. |

| reply to alee said by alee :so that they don't overlap You really should have some overlap. With DSL you cannot determine what your line quality will be and what speeds you can achieve until you install and test. If you run into problems it will be a godsend if you still have your old connection in order to get help. An extra month of service is not a lot to pay for the convenience of fallback if anything should go wrong during the switchover. |

And thanks guys for the quick replies. Appreciate it. |

Is there a way to determine or find out how far you are to the DSLAM? No. At least not reliably. Even if you know you are near the CO as the crow flies, the path as the copper flies (or burrows) could be significantly longer. There could also be a remote DSLAM closer than the CO.
The only reliable way to determine this is to "suck it and see." |

Problems can occur however I don't blame TSI for this. |

| reply to alee Yup. My connection date was the 18th also but didn't happen. Bell came today and hooked me up. I don't blame Teksavvy either. I'm a happy camper for now but I'm also hoping they can squeeze a little more speed out of my line cuz i'm only getting 2meg download. |

Check out my two speedtest that I did today. Even with that I still would rather be with TSI
I goto Bell and it says I can get upto 7Mbps I goto TSI and they confirm 5Mbps I'm 3Km from the CO and get 2Mbps
unthrottled 200Gig/month with superior customer service - Priceless |

| said by Stewy :I'm 3Km from the CO and get 2Mbps How did you determine that? As the crow flies or as the copper is actually strung? Your stats (noise margin of 8.5dB and attenuation of 58dB) suggest you are either much farther from the CO or there is a wiring issue somewhere along the way. |

Well when the Bell tech came I asked him how far I was from the CO and he said about 3Km so I'm taking his word for it.
I wouldn't be surprised by the wiring or anything else from Bell at this point. When the tech was here as soon as he hooked up his tester the line was totally dead, no juice whatsoever.
When he came back he did make a call to somewhere at bell and complained about the entire relay being "hot" and for them to make some adjustments of some sort. I have no clue what he was talking about though.
If I'm really 3Km away with these numbers it's truely a sad statement for the state of adsl. |
