From the earliest days.. if you wanted FIOS internet you had to get at least POTS phone and/or Cable-TV service.. this was policy that went right to the top.. yes Seidenburg. This policy has been tolerated until recent years until it meant that uptake was suffering due to this requirement.. so rather than spend billions on upgrading the entire Verizon footprint and only having a mere fraction of the potential market... this policy has for the most part fell by the wayside.. Verizon is out to get as many customers as they can and not lose out to cable companies.
Says who? Is there an M&P document that you have that says this? This is totally not true.

Since Fios was released, I have had FiOS Internet only, no phone billed to my credit card. I can cite at least 3 of my neighbors who have it and have voip and have had FiOS since its inception here.
My next door neighbor, same deal - no phone.
I was one of the first FiOS subscribers and was never even bothered by the possibility of having to switch anything.

Even the web site two and a half years ago offered a-la-carte FiOS - Take it as you will. If you want a bundle discount, then you need to have a voice line from them.
First of all you are naive.. the ways you were able to get FIOS was through online ordering or placing a phone call to customer service. The order takers were trained to say.. no phone line... no FIOS internet (the days before they had tv franchises.. that was/is a long hard fight which is still underway). Then it evolved into requirement for a FIOS internet only account to be billed DIRECTLY to a credit card.. for 'automatic billing' and most likely required you to sign up for a 1-2 year commitment depending upon their mood at the time (their fear was for Verizon to come out and do a $1500 install only for a customer to cancel the account after 1-2 months). This is in addition to the standing order for the install tech(s) to CUT THE COPPER LINES DOWN to the building unless there was a specific request by the customer NOT TO DO SO (many didn't bother to ask). Once a phone line was ported, you had to go through a LARGE HASSLE to get it back to copper. No, you will not find this in documents of the time, since few, if any made a federal case out of it.. customer sentiment was.. build the damned network already, and they can provide service on their own terms.. which is EXACTLY what they have done. We are talking about the first areas to receive fios WAY back in 2003 (if your wondering.. Keller Texas and some choice communities of Long Island, New York were the test markets for FIOS). Yes, the installs are cheaper & faster now.. but we're talking about the past performance of Verizon which is always evolving.

During this time YMMV.. not everyone was treated equally to the same experience.. that isn't to say it didn't happen. If you've been monitoring the BBR threads the past 5 years you would know this to be true. Nobody (to my knowledge) was sent an official Verizon letterhead stating you can not get FIOS internet without phone service, but it did happen to potential customers... some of which probably stayed with their cablemodem service provider that much longer and some probably never left due to this experience. At the moment, I am FIOS customer.. I went through the 4 hour install and service has been mostly great (I didn't personally care about having POTS phone line at the time). There were only 2 outages (once during the major blackout.. obviously). Phone company policies have been historically rigid about the terms and conditions upon which they provide service. This must be relaxed as they get into internet and tv service as they stand to make a whole lot more revenue/profit from cross marketing/promotion. Many investors critics & internal employees have been skeptical that FIOS would pan out to be a success (not to mention competitors & the public). FIOS is a proven success. The new worry for the company is the doubling down 20 billion on wireless upgrades, but I digress.

FYI, I did have the VZ cable-tv for a couple of months (last year), but found the service to be flaky at best, compared to our local cable company or satellite. I currently have satellite cable. Hopefully they've improved the product since then. The internet service remains the best deal in the industry (in the USA).

Well this naive former employee has contacts with a lot of current Senior level people in the company, most of whom work on FiOs and other products so I too have a wealth of knowledge about what is fact and what is fiction.
You need to try to be less negative here. If you are a disgruntled ex employee or current one, it shows in your posts.
Lighten up.

Why is it that you assume only a disgruntled former (ex-employee) would make such statements about Verizon? I have no affiliation with Verizon other than being a current customer.

I too have known people who have worked for the 'phone company' going back all the way to the days of the mabell/rbocs (although never working for them myself). I also know first hand that employees in good standing (or better) get perks which the average Joe doesn't know about.. from discounts, to free service, to alpha/beta tests of the latest & greatest products/services. I once knew someone who had a T1 Internet way back in 1994/5 (FREE)! These lines were reserved for large corporations or colleges with $$ cash $$. Did I mention their relative worked for the phone company back then? What was the internet for most back then, dialup?

I have never been the recipient of these perks, but I expect to have exactly what I pay for without the drama Verizon employees like to do with billing & botched customer service requests, such as the one when I canceled the Verzion-TV service. If the standing policy recently is to do stand-alone FIOS internet without requirements for other products/services, that's great.. but keep in mind that was NOT always the case despite what your sources tell you. When something is not right, I tell it like it is which some may not want to hear. When Verizon does good, I am on here and other forums praising that as well.

To finish the fight here-- FiOS HAS ALWAYS been offered a la carte if you want just voice, just video, just data, two of them, or all of them (thats where the bundle comes in) you have ALWAYS been able to keep your copper phone line/VOIP phone line/current cable provider (if you got just data, or data and voice) or whathaveyou. They do not and have never required anybody to have all of, or any combination of, services (yes the billing is probably higher for a la carte than bundle, but its always been available) and yes employees we have some sick benefits and pay but they do not include free service of any kind (I only get 20% off my vz-wireless familyplan)
