Providers need to offer more upload

Yes more download is always nice, but so is more upload, for those that want/need it. I realize, not everyone will need more than say 512kbps of upload, but does that mean that the option of decently fast upstream for consumers who would make use of it shouldn't be an option at all? Not everyone needs 10mbps or faster download either, yet faster downstream is usually an option. What is this reason for Fear that all ISPs have when it comes to actually providing bandwidth in the outgoing direction!
I personally use my upstream to send large files to my off site backup server, which I pay for. You're connected to the same internet whether you're on a T1, T3, or an ADSL or cable circuit. So give users that want it the best upstream, as well as downstream, that they're lines can handle.
Verizon has a 768k upload package that is actually configured at 864kbps. AT&T on the other hand, using the same technology, only configures it's 768k Package for exactly 768kbps, a difference of nearly 100kbps or nearly 13 kilobytes/second! It's also quite sad that a friend of mine who lives in rural Canada can get via Wireless 3 megabits/second symmetrical, while folks in the city though they can get 18 megabits a second down, only get 1 megabit per second upstream and that's a cable connection!
Give users that want it the best upstream for the technology they have, and quit living in fear that providing upload will be a bad thing. If the technology can do it, show us already what existing and new technologies can do in the upload direction! I wonder what'll happen if T1 circuits drop below $100/month?

honestly, what're they smoking? In northeastern parts of the US, verizon is offering 20/20 (SYMMETRIC) internet for, what... $65/month. even if that were unbundled, the cost would be WAY less than Qworst!
If Verizon were to overbuild into Qworst territory, I can bet Qwest'd be dead meat.
Sad....... and that's not even counting the fact that Verizon invested over $ 20 billion in fiber, and still can afford to price FiOS at those rates. LAWLZ
