If you can ping a computer by IP address, what happens if you try to access the server by typing \\ followed by the IP address into the address bar of a windows explorer window
(ie open My Computer, in the address bar put \\192.168.1.123 or whatever.) If the address bar isn't visible then set view->toolbars->address bar
