Re: Protest on Parliament Hill in Ottawa, April 29th!

Would love to go, as I could make it a day and visit my daughter; however my employer's regulations precludes my taking part on political issues, which, ultimately, this is.

I did the written parts however the only time I can actually participate on political issues is at the ballot box.

Whether I make it there or not will be interesting as I'll be camping in Algonquin the night before but I demand to see epic internet fad signs. Something like Private Internet: Do Not Want. But better.

Edit: Tuesday is forecasted to be 10 degrees and raining in Ottawa. Luckily weather forecasts usually prove to be wrong that many days in advance....usually...

I'm in, I work in the downtown Ottawa core (30 second walk), will show up to support right after work... might not be there for most of it, but still looking forward to shout out for this cause!

What we need to do is target all the transport employees on queen street to join in after work, as well as all other federal Govt employees. they're use to protesting and love a good picket line

Someone should let Charlie Angus know so that he can come down. That might entice more media coverage as well.

re: Bus fares.

Those fare engines don't discuss other options. Greyhound often has those $99 passes that let you travel all across canada for X days. (or they used to have). You need to hunt those down on the web sites or by calling.

You could also call your local MP and ask if he/she/it can provide transportation for you to demonstrate.

Montreal people can look at AmigoExpress »amigoexpress.ca (in french) or AlloStop »www.allostop.ca/english/default.htm

Cheaper than bus, you can also hook up some passengers and cut your gas bill.

Allo stop will not get you in Ontario. Apparently, that service would require some special permit.

(Special thanks to Greyhound and the others who complained).

The beauty of Ottawa is that you can get off at Gatineau, QC and one 3$ fare bus ride gets you to Ottawa in a snap...

Very ** IMPORTANT **

Hi Rocky,

I just received that return call from the Parliamentry Office Of Protocol.

They require a 10 day advance form filled to be approved by 7 of the 14 commitee members before a demonstration (protest) is permitted on the Hill.

I've been sent the form and the best they can do is Tuesday the 6th of MAY (same hours) (if I send in the request before 4PM).

What do you want to do ?

Also I will need an estimate on the number of participants.

If the demonstration is not pre-approved, I can guarantee the participants will be removed without hesitation.

Rules, please read and ensure you understand these... Thank You !

I'm assuming we could protest outside the gate, or the paperwork could be filled and we could go on the actual hill

Not really,

Like I said, it has to be pre-approved by the commitee for various reasons...

ie... Dignitary visits, other groups who may clash with other demonstrators, construction activities, etc ....

The Security post-911, is a lot tighter than before.

I would love to go if I could; but I can't. I e-mailed Cory Doctorow from boingboing.net and also Michael Geist from michaelgeist.ca to ask if they could help out with promoting this on their blogs.

And here is a flyer I created for you to download, print off, hand out to your family and friends, and anyone else wishing to jump on the bandwagon.

If you feel anything else should be added, changed, let me know. I have the draft saved to my computer.

Sick day, off day, skip... Don't matter. If you want to make a difference, do it! You have roughly a week!
Did Rocky say that all those teksavvy users who show up get a free t-shirt and 5% off their bill next month?

TSI customers who show up get one of those new shirts free, maybe? :P

Although, as awesome as that'd be, that could be too expensive. Maybe have a little contest or something at the rally, give away two or three tshirts to the winners.

EDIT: Bring some to sell at a discount, since there'd be no shipping charges?

How much would the shirts be without shipping?

Teksavvy should arrange for a charter bus to bring people in to Ottawa for free from Montreal and Toronto. More people will go if it's free.
