just what I thought

Just what I thought, Wimax will become nothing more than an off the shelf "proprietary" fixed p2p/p2m wireless system for specialized applications. All it will do it let telecom providers and other businesses have bidding on wireless equipment since there is now a standard with interoperability rather than 100s of proprietary vendor specific standards.

Actually WiMAX is an IEEE spec, about as open as it gets. LTE is 3GGP, more limited and controlled by the telcom industry. WiMAX has a much greater chance of getting on a broad range of devices like WiFi. LTE devices will be limited and controlled by the telcom industry.

Its an open spec for p2p backhaul and enterprise grade wireless internet delivery. So much for consumer grade internet.
