| reply to blaster_bolt Limewire has very poor torrent implementation, as following specs goes(very important for private sites and good even for public ones to follow spec). Transmission is a very good client for residential lines. It wasn't the best seeder on a 100 mbit and 1 gbit pipe(but was able to more easily max the downstream), by my observation, but did fine on all tested residential lines. Azureus is a bit of a bloated Java hog(not as bad as it used to be), but it performs well downloading and seeding, whether it be on a dedicated server or your home PC. However, your best option overall might be Bit Tornado mated with torrent flux. You should be able to compile the source just fine. It performs very well in every respect I ever measured, though the interface is bad. That's what torrentflux takes care of. Have a local listening Apache server with TF for a nice GUI via your web browser. These are the best options I know for a Mac. I hear rtorrent(excellent nix/BSD client) compiles well on a Mac, but haven't tested it. If it does, you got another excellent client. Some Windows clients may also run via Darwine. So, take your pick. I hope my opinions help some. |

The private trackers that I use don't ban Transmission (anymore), luckily enough. |

It's supported by all mine too. utorrent via Darwine does work. You can also just use Tornado/flux source. I know no site that bans Bit Tornado. Only 1 or 2 ban rtorrent, mostly due to either ignorance or rtorrent's announce format wreaking hell with buggy tracker source code. Transmission is the easiest option. Trust me that not many sites ban it anymore(if any). |
