Then, I think of how many the Red Sox will have won in that time.

| you can make the same argument about other sports and teams. You ask a person about football and they'll say Patriots but the only guy they can name if Brady because he is awesome or hot or whatever same with Dallas and Romo. I can name the entire lineup of every game this season. Rooting for your team is support. You don't have to be able to name Wilson Benemit or Shelly Duncan or know that Jorge took played part of a game at first to support your team.
