Need Suggestions/Help.. trial running out!

I have the UM150 from both Verizon and Alltel right now. One has to go back in a few days and here is my problem.

**Verizon-works perfect, never lose connection BUT has the 5G limit so I cant afford overages.

**Alltel-works okay WHEN it works. Loses connection, boots me off, pages cannot be displayed, may stay on for 2 hrs or 5 minutes.

Is there any way I could force Alltel to roam or any suggestions?

I am using a laptop with Vista and directly connecting my modem to my pc.

Don't get it. Alltel is Fing with the network and it's PISSING ME OFF!

I went from 1500/100 average speeds to 500/80.. this is BULLSHIT.

They've screwed it up so much that my speeds have turned to garbage and their retarded proxy crap they're using now has slowed webpages down to a crawl or simple won't load at all.. it's also screwing up PHP pages.. when it comes out of proxy it sends it to me as a file and mistakes it for a freaken download.. HELLO MY COMPUTER ISN'T A PHP RENDERING ENGINE YOU IDIOTS!

So basically, don't buy it.. it's a pile of crap atm until they fix this garbage.

I wasted my money on it. Don't do the same. My hughesnet (satellite) actually downloaded faster then this crap.. the only difference is lower ping and no bandwidth limit.

Alltel can ONLY roam x1 on version. They can roam EVDO on sprint.

If there's no alternative.. buy a modem off ebay and avoid the 2yr contract.. then use it as you see fit, but it's not worth the 2yr contract.. not by a long shot.. at least not until they fix this garbage.

I love how my first month I got wonderful speeds.. then they apply these BS "improved" network changes and it decreases my speeds by 2/3.. They'll either fix it.. or I'll back charge and get my money back. I'm going to give it another month to fix it self.

The 5 gig limit is not a big deal unless you plan to download a lot of stuff , like movies and music

Just did the math. That's 170mb a day MAX. 5GB a MONTH is rubbish.

Sounds like you're screwed.. both services blow.

Gotta love exploitation of those less privileged.. I love you big business! They can't get DSL.. Quick charge 60 bucks and add a download limit! DO IT.. damn.. that's a good idea.. maybe I should gets me a ISP going lol..

Forgot to mention you could always go with Alltel and get a portable booster that should give you a more stable connection.

I'm praying they work things out.. so it'd be the way to go if you're going to be stuck in a contract.

If it's ONLY you using the internet and you don't download heavily daily.. then Verizon would be the best choice.

Well, i dont download but a few songs here and there and we watched some clips on youtube and they tried to bill me $2200 my first 45 days. I am on line a lot for my work. The 5 gig limit blows..

Okay do you think a booster would help? Here is what i got right now..

1xRTT -86dBm
1xEVDO -90dBm

At -90 dbm ,an amplifier setup should get you into the mid 70's . Ideal EVDO signal is between -65 and -75 . That is where you will get maximum upload , download speeds and your lowest latency

With shipping you are looking at $230 and change for a full dual band Cyfre Amplifier / Antenna kit and adapter cable

Amp/Antenna I don't think is ideal for a mobile setup, which is why I suggested one of those tiny Booster Antennas. I'm no expert though. You should call maximumsignal and get some help.. he helped me and couldn't be happier (not his fault alltel are a bunch of dingbats though).

The only problems you are going to face is the tons everyone else on alltel is facing atm.. their "Improvements" to the network. So if you went over the 5Gb and this is your only solution. Then I'm going to have to say go for it. You're in the same boat as everyone else.. the internet company owns us.

What about Sprint? They are in my area but on their map I am COMPLETELY roaming. Would I be using Alltel then?

Krileon

If you have sprint and roaming. You will roam on Alltel EVDO tower. If they have a trial period as well then give it a try if it offers a better deal then the other 2.

I know they have 1x roaming on alltel, but I don't know if sprint can roam evdo on alltel. I dunno the details of their deal. Sry.

Alltel has an EVDO agreement with Sprint and a 1xrtt with Verizon.

Yep, got a buddy that got service from Sprint even though they do not have EVDO service within 50 miles of him. He is completely on Alltel's network.
