Orthanc | AT&T USBConnect 881 External Antenna I have AT&T's wireless broadband service. They sent me a USBConnect 881 modem (see link)

It has an external antenna port that I have seen referenced as an SSMB Nano connector. I also saw it called an SMA Nano, not sure what the difference is.
I get terrible service in my house and was wondering what sort of antenna would improve my reception.

kudos:1 | It may be the materials in your house blocking the 3G signal . What is your current signal strength in the house? If you can take your laptop outside and let us know the signal strength outside . That will help us figure out why your signal is weak and what the best solution might be

1 edit | I have the exact same modem and having the same problem. I have one bar in the house. I put up a Yagi (directional antenna), pointed it at the tower and plugged it in. It instantly killed my 3g connection but slammed me with 100% edge signal. That would be great if I wanted edge. Im not sure what frequency that antenna jack is for, the Yagi is 1900 mhz.
It may be that 3g is a different frequency. I'm also trying to find that out as well. I can suggest in the mean time to purchase a 16' active usb cable and try moving it outside. I got one full bar more doing this. However this modem is not made to be left outside so I would like to find and install the proper antenna.

kudos:2 | Not sure about your area, but AT&T does have licenses for 850 in a lot of places, and their 3G may be on 850 in your area, with GSM-only on 1900. Just a thought. |
