fenriswlf : I have the exact same modem and having the same problem. I have one bar in the house. I put up a Yagi (directional antenna), pointed it at the tower and plugged it in. It instantly killed my 3g connection but slammed me with 100% edge signal. That would be great if I wanted edge. Im not sure what frequency that antenna jack is for, the Yagi is 1900 mhz.
It may be that 3g is a different frequency. I'm also trying to find that out as well. I can suggest in the mean time to purchase a 16' active usb cable and try moving it outside. I got one full bar more doing this. However this modem is not made to be left outside so I would like to find and install the proper antenna.

Good luck, Anyone else that can offer some input?
