| 6 New HD Channels in Denver by end of May
Take it for what it's worth, but I spoke to a rep at Comcast and he seemed very in tune, open and willing to share some info about new HD channels coming to Denver. I originally called about a recurring issue with our DVR skipping and not recording shows. While going through the whole process of pressing numbers, a recording came on and said that several channels were moving to new numbers. So I asked the rep when Denver is getting new channels and he said end of May is the plan and that there were going to be six new ones. He knew one was HGTV-HD, but was not sure what the other channels were. Again, take it for what it's worth, but this is the first time I have heard anything about new HD channels coming. Hope it happens! |

| Heh! I am hopeful that you are on to something here, since our HD suite sucks big time, and it seems that the Front Range is getting little to nothing in HD since last fall when TBSHD was added just prior to the MLB playoffs. Frankly, compressed or not, I'd like to see some HD value for our Comcast $$.
Let's keep an eye on any other news. |

| Science or Sci-Fi channel? I will tell you one thing, if those channels are all they are offering in May, it's time to go to DirecTV for me, lower quality or not. If Sci-Fi channel hits, it's not bad, but I have not use for HD Food, HD Disney or HD TLC.
I heard today that the new HD channels were due April 20th and pushed back to early May, possibly end of May for the tech who replaced our DVR. BTW, new HD DVR seems much better than the 3412. |

| reply to Quaoar Just for interest, last night, 4/28/2008, my TVPlanner showed three new HD channels for Fort Collins, and Denver, I suppose. They were SciHD, HGHD, TravelHD.
I checked channel by channel, none of these appeared. Went back to TVPlanner, and they were not there. Maybe a quick test of TVPlanner for these hypothetical May updates? |

| reply to captainjy Comcast will continue to add HD Channels. Biggest problem right now isn't Comcast completely but more so the studios and broadcasting companies to upgrade their cameras and other equipment so they can produce shows and movies in HD. Highly watched shows like Oprah and Ellen won't show up in HD even when you go to the HD Channel (seperate channel from the analog version). Comcast knows this and is adding channels slowly probably because of this.
You can tell when you are watching a true-HD picture not only from quality but it will be a widescreen picture, if there are two side bars on the right and left of the picture making the picture square, your actually watching Standard Definition.
So even though DirecTV claims it has more HD Channels, thats really nice to have the channels ready for HD but most programs aren't. The program has to be recorded, broadcasted, received and displayed using HD equipment to be true HD.
Comcast has HD On Demand and will also be adding more and more HD stuff. Another obstacle for Comcast is bandwidth for each channel. Each "Analog Channel" could be replaced by 12 "Digital Channels". So think of the possibilities there! |

| No. On my system the problem IS Comcast. They refuse to add channels on my system (Comcast of NJ II) while the same people that are in charge of Northern NJ add more channels on Comcast NW NJ and Comcast of Central NJ. Why? No one can give a straight answer...
Now I know why I see a ton of dishes from E* and D* popping up everywhere. |

| sansri88 - did someone at Comcast in NJ tell you they will never add channels? I doubt that. Comcast has to change equipment at the "Head-End" where the content is sent from. Other programming of hardware there is required and tested before additions can be made. I can tell you they already have plans to add HD channels in the NJ area so although I and others might not know exactly when they change will happen, Corporate has made some pretty good size commitments at the national level. |

| SDV. You see, though, the people that run our area removed 3 analog channels from the lineups in Central NJ (I think) and on the Ocean County/Toms River lineups. Why can't they remove the same analog channels here as well, for a short term solution to the lack of HD channels? |

| Oh don't worry they will be removing channels. It's only a matter of time. Your in the Eastern Division, and then each division is broken up into regions. My thoughts are that it could be upgrade problems, they may need to do a bit more in your area to get stuff done versus the other areas you said have already moved forward. There could be other issues, but look to the future to see many changes and updates. |

@comcast.net | reply to captainjy Captainjy, which site posted that Denver got new HD channels? I am in Denver and we haven't got any new HD channels as of my post right now. Maybe they plan to add them after Midnight or so but nothing at the moment. |

| AVS. From what has been posted there, some are seeing the new channels, some aren't. We don't have them and we live in north Thornton/Brighton. Most of the Thornton people are reporting no new channels. It's been reported on AVS that North Metro customers should be getting the new channels very soon. |

| reply to Steve_Vigil Comcast tried to add some channels in Denver Thursday, but they messed it up. Food HD is now where the EPG says VSGLF ought to be. There are other problems as well. When I checked yesterday, the Web site listed TLC, DIS, FAM, FOOD, HGTV and SCI as being available. But all I can tune to is FOOD. The service rep I talked to Friday acknowledged the problem and hit my box, but it did no good. She had no clue as to when it would be fixed. |
