| Babylon ends Negotiations for FIOS
I was told that just a couple of weeks ago all negotiations with Babylon fell through. Babylon wanted $500,000. and was offered $400,000 by Verizon. Babylon said they wouldnt budge and Verizon said forget it. I live in Lindenhurst and I will be attending the Town meeting on Tuesday April 29 at 3:30 in Town Hall. I urge all others to attend if possible and make our displeasure known. |

| reply to Lindy guy If you live in the Township of Babylon which includes Deer Park, Copaige, Lindenhurst, Amityville, Wyndanch and Wheatley Heights YOU need to attend this meeting! Beware these officials will blame Verizon because they are in Cablevision's Pockets!!! START CALLING the TOWN HALL and demaninding Verizon be allowed to start selling TV. This is Bull S...I was told that all the telephone service that the Town has is with Cablevision. Verizon lawyers offered them a good deal and the town leaders wanted more. More since they really don't care since Cablevision is taking care of these officials with some sort of a payoff. Why can't we get Verizon TV service because of these politicians!!! Because they are in bed with Cablevision. |

| reply to Lindy guy Verizon has been spending big bucks in the Town of Babylon installing Fios in the northeast section of the Town (Deer Park).I have also seen it installed in portions of West Babylon, Wheatley Heights and North Lindenhurst. Now it sounds like that the new installed systems will never be used or activated without a franchise agreement with the Town, which, according to Lindy guy, is now a dead issue. This is totally crazy. I guess the new fiber will simply rot on the poles. |

Telcoguru Premium join:2005-08-22 Fresh Meadows, NY | reply to Lindy guy The problem is Verizon can only offer a certain percentage over what Cablevision is already paying and no more. The town wants a lot more and Verizon can't go any higher. It's a shame because the fiber is up already waiting to be used. |

| reply to Lindy guy Actually, the fiber will NOT rot on the poles because you can still get telephone/internet service for 64.99 month. I have it and the internet is SOOOOO much better than cablevision because it's 20 meg dedicted to your home where cable is 15 meg SHARED NETWORK - shared by everyone in your neighborhood. AT THE SAME TIME, I want the TV service BADLY because it surpasses any other service around in clarity, sound and value - ON DEMAND IS FREEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!! Go to the meeting and speak your word or Nothing will get done! |

| reply to Telcoguru They can still use it for Voice and Data, so it won't go wasted. You have NO IDEA how these municipalities are raping VZ to sign agreements. Philly's gonna be another tough one b/c they're in bed w/ Comcast. Statewide franchises are the way to go! |
|
Telcoguru Premium join:2005-08-22 Fresh Meadows, NY | Verizon only wants a state wide franchise if the whole state is profitable. They don't want a statewide franchise if they have to build out less profitable rural areas. |

| reply to Lindy guy You need to understand that the part of FIOS that cablevision would be in direct competition with is the TV part. Cablevision is not about to let that happen. Since the Babylon Town administration is firmly in the pockets of Cablevision, cracking the TV barrier for Verizon is going to be tough. Don't forget, these are politicians we're talking about. They're in this for themselves, not us. The good news is that Verizon will be able to provide phone and internet service on their fiber network in the town. Unfortunately, people tend to vote for the incumbents in elections. That's why these people stagnate in office. I, for one, voted against them in the last election. More people need to do that. |

@optonline.net | reply to Lindy guy Did anyone attend the Town of Babylon Board meeting today at the Town Hall? I was wondering if the Fios matter was brought to the discussion table by any Town officials or by interested residents. |

| reply to sonet192 Re: Babylon ends Negotiations for FIOS - BUNK !
Sonet192 is correct. The town of Babylon's key people are DEEP into the pockets of the DOLAN Family..... Gee, this sounds like the West Side Stadium all over again, right here in our town. It's time we put the Town Nit Wits in there place. The people of this town deserve the right to choose the best service to use. It's time the Dolan's were delt with. We need to Demand FIOS Service be allowed now, not when it get's out to Gilgo in about 10 years. That's a LAME excuse from a Cablevision 'LACKY'. We demand the best service available, not what Cablevision attempts to provide. WHAT are they scared of? People might find out how LAME there Service really is ? Get over It.... END This Standoff NOW. WE, the Tax Payers deserve Better... |

| reply to Lindy guy I have been waiting for FIOS for the last couple of years to come to Copiague and have wondered what has been happening. my buddy turned me onto this site since he has FIOS in NJ. I used to have Bellone's private email, which we all could have sent him our displeasure, but I do have the TOB link to send any questions. I definitely plan on voicing my concern about this. Here is the link if anyone else wants to let our 'elected' officials know they are doing a crappy job in keeping that monopolistic company called Cablevision in business. »www.townofbabylon.com/contact_form.cfm |
