When to sell iPhone? How much will iPhone be worth after new

When 3G is shipping, how much will my 16G iPhone be worth?

Will Apple offer an upgrade?

Dunno. If I were going to sell my iPhone, I'd probably unlock it and go after T-mobile customers who might be interested in a good deal on a used one.

I'm guessing an upgrade path is highly unlikely.

Unlock it and sell it to Canadians! We're sick of waiting for Rogers.

I have to think about this as well :/. The smart thing to do would be to throw it on eBay or something close to the announcement. If you value having a phone, however, you'd put a lot on the line for that stunt.. for example, you may be out of a phone for a whole month if, say, Steve decides to ANNOUNCE the 3G iPhone in June and then say it'll ship in July, sorta like what they did with Time Capsule a little while back.

So yeah, I'm not doing that. I'll hold on to my current iPhone and just play the waiting game, and then get the 3G iPhone and probably lose a lot of money in the whole process with selling my 1st gen iPhone and all..

Sigh.

Are there any other current iPhone users who are planning on upgrading to iPhone 2 as soon as humanly possible? If there is going to be a preorder type thing, I'll be on that the second I see it. The question of what to do with my current iPhone remains, however..

I'll do it if they really do offer a 3G one for $199 w/ contract. Sell my current one for about $100 and then I'm only $99 in the hole.

You're kidding, right? Does Apple offer processor upgrades to MacBook Pro owners when there's a processor bump or when there was a change to dual layer DVD recorders? No.

Yeah they will offer an upgrade.

You pay full price for a new one, and you get to keep your old one.

Where are you guys selling your current iPhones once the new one drops? I know I *will* pay full price for the new one if that's what I have to do.. but obviously that price would shrink if I'm able to get a nice deal by selling my current iPhone :/

Count me in. I was thinking the same thing when I saw this thread. I plan on selling my 16GB this month on eBay. It can still get $500. This is basically like playing the stock market. Sell while still high. I have a regular iPod that I can use in combination with a regular phone.

After I got my iPhone I kept my old Nokia, so I'll probably switch back to that and put the iPhone on eBay in early June - and then order an iPhone off the website as soon as they announce them. Really up to my wife though - I gave her my 8GB in exchange for her 4GB to make her happy - but if I can get her an 8GB or 16GB 3G iPhone she'd probably really like that and I'd get my old 8GB phone back.

Rogers actually announced they will be carrying it. No exact date yet, but they said in a press release it will be available "later this year".

Dang, I spent so much on my iPhone, I'm not getting rid of it till it breaks, 3G/GPS/32GB be damned.

3G and GPS aren't worth upgrading for me. I bought the iPhone because I was happy with its current featureset, not to speculate on a future release..

Well as I said earlier in the thread that is if the rumors of a $199 turn out to be true.
