AT&T and ID/credit card/any type of theft

About four years ago someone charged my credit card twice for AT&T mobile phone service, once in Washington state and once in Missouri or Mississippi (can't remember). When I tried to get some information on the charges I was told I had no rights to any information since I did not do the charges, and no, they would not take action on it since to them it was a valid transaction, now pay us. My CC company reversed the charges for me and the CC rep said they probably would not recover anything from AT&T, it happens all the time with them.

Now they probably want to charge you for trying to deal with theft that they profit by? Looks like those who prey on people have won, the honest Joe (or Jane) has no rights or recourse in many cases (not only here, but in other facets of life).
