Statistics.... "Most dangerous when measured by number of deaths per 100,000 workers."

Well, it depends who you ask, but here's some of the deadliest jobs in the USA, and it might switch around by who ranks what, but these are all up there:

Commercial Fisherman
Farmers and Agricultural workers
Truck Drivers and other CDL drivers (Taxi drivers etc)
Construction and Iron Workers
Test Pilots/Helicopter Pilots
Military in times of War
Garbage and Recycle workers (this surprised me at first)
Convenience Store/Small retail stores employees

Well, it depends who you ask, but here's some of the deadliest jobs in the USA, and it might switch around by who ranks what, but these are all up there:

Commercial Fisherman -> Won't do
Farmers and Agricultural workers -> Haven't done
Truck Drivers and other CDL drivers (Taxi drivers etc) -> Did
Construction and Iron Workers -> Going into Carpenter's
Test Pilots/Helicopter Pilots -> Not doing yet
Military in times of War -> Won't do unless it is domestic
Garbage and Recycle workers (this surprised me at first) -> Did and hated and won't do again
Convenience Store/Small retail stores employees -> Did and 1 day before being fired got held up at cash register
I'm a bit curious about some of the details: Construction & Iron Workers: is that the iron worker's union specifically? Convenience store: is that from all the ____k people who shoot people with guns and the other ones who stab with knives? Ditto on taxi cab drivers.

Oh well.

I'm guessing that includes charter pilots as well. There are a disturbingly high number of small aircraft crashes every year; most of them are due to some non-critical failure (usually gauge failure) in the cockpit that causes the pilot to become distracted and make critical errors.

So what? In case you don't understand: they count deaths per worker in that field. If you were going by deaths total per year, tower climbers wouldn't even be a blip in the stats.

OSHA counts accidents and fatalities by Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) Code. There are no distinctions by union or non-union, they count by the employer's activitity.

Carpenters can fall and die as easily as iron workers. Gravity is an equal opportunity killer. It works the same on everybody.

Yeah. It's from the robberies, the thugs, the hold-ups, etc As well as the occasional accident, but the crime element is the biggest factor in this field. In some parts of the country it's really dangerous work.

It's a lot of "test" pilots (Or pilots flying experimental aircraft, read: Home made, own design, etc) as well as Helicopter pilots (You'd be surprised at the number of accidents while working on jobs, and while trying to rescue others.) Private pilots crash a lot too... Commercial aviation as a whole doesn't have a lot of crashes, but....

YMMV

I would say Construction is on top of the list, simply because most deaths from it are not reported "from construction" because issues related to not wanting insurance going up/lack of insurance/illegal immigrant, etc.

Don't believe the hype. More fishermen are killed fishing for Dungeness crab along the Pacific coast than in the Bering Sea.

Nice, that breaks it down better.

I'd lumped Farmers, Ranchers and Agricultural workers all together, and also Roofers etc fell under Construction.

I'd forgotten about Loggers... And... Miners? I've always heard mining is pretty dangerous....
