| I'm all for this because I use automated systems (Web sites, generally) to do all my bill paying. This is not only more convenient for me, but it's less expensive for the supplier.
Why shouldn't the people who can't or won't use automated systems pay for the additional cost of speaking to a human, who then simply types in the transaction to the system just as I would on the web site without the middleman?
Why should that cost be spread across my bill?
Oh and by the way I don't get the "My identity was stolen so I can't open a checking account." Maybe I'm just ignorant here -- but what is stopping you? |

The person in this example has a checking account. It was frozen due to identity theft and could no longer be used. And if one's identity has been stolen, I'd imagine it probably complicates the process of opening yet another checking account elsewhere just to pay a phone bill.
I don't particularly mind if companies charge additional fees to use legacy services that cost more to operate, but in cases where a person was victimized and no longer has the means to use a system that's "convenient" for the company, business ethics should compel a company to cut them some slack. The "nobody's making us care about you, so we won't" attitude isn't winning companies like AT&T any brownie points with the public at large. -- "I'll follow the law until it's just stupid." -Ted Nugent |

My daughter has this same problem. She was a victim of identity theft and it has her credit so screwed up no bank will touch her right now. When they see the credit report that ends the would you like to open an account statement. |

When they see the credit report that ends the would you like to open an account statement. That's terrible, thanks for setting me straight. |
