| COMPUSA rises from the Ashes.... .... Seems like COMPUSA is coming back to life after all, with retail stores, not just Online.
I think TigerDirect bought up the name and the some rights, as far as I can tell CompUSA.com and TigerDirect.com now sell the same stuff at the same price.... Anyway, some of the stores have re-opened...
Competition is a good thing, and I'm betting Tiger (or their parent?) got the rights CHEAP. Good way to move into Brick n Mortar....

everything we've ever bought from there has always worked great! (their repair service sucks though - i got something fixed, and $300 later, the screen turned to a blu-ish tint - and has stayed that way since - it's in the garage now - it was a round -bottom imac white, i think.)
i just bought an ethernet cable (high speed internet cable) from them a few weeks ago... their online service is fast, clean, and well-packaged!

| Re: COMPUSA rises from the Ashes.... The old CompUSA company is gone. They sold everything, fixtures, the works, and closed all stores.
This is essentially a new company that must have the rights to the name (and obviously have re-leased some of the facilities.) I don't know for sure, but I suspect it's TigerDirect. Seems like videos on the Compusa.com site link to Tiger Direct videos, and they have the same items on sale!
If TigerDirect did buy the rights to the CompUSA name, I think it was a good move, they now can try their hand at brick and mortar and not have it cost and arm and a leg to buy out an existing chain. -- "Regulatory capitalism is when companies invest in lawyers, lobbyists, and politicians, instead of plant, people, and customer service." - former FCC Chairman William Kennard (A real FCC Chairman, unlike the current Corporate Spokesperson in the job!)

| Re: COMPUSA rises from the Ashes.... Ah, there we go. Good call by SystemMax then. They scored it for dirt, I'm sure as the company was completely folded.
Also, for pricing, I expect them to be pretty aggressive. They'll be more then buying online, but hopefully only slightly more. (They have to cover the overhead of the brick and motor operation somehow.)
The thing about having one of these stores means you can go get parts and stuff NOW. If you order online, you have to wait. Sometimes up to 2 weeks or so.
Sometimes I like just to browse thru a store too, just looking.... -- "Regulatory capitalism is when companies invest in lawyers, lobbyists, and politicians, instead of plant, people, and customer service." - former FCC Chairman William Kennard (A real FCC Chairman, unlike the current Corporate Spokesperson in the job!)

Much better prices overall.
2 weeks? Did they move Oklahoma near the arctic or something? Can't even remember the last time I ordered something that took 2 weeks outside of a Woot Bag of Crap to show up.

You order something "In Stock" only to get that "This item is currently backordered" song and dance email...

They sold *everything* here. Light fixtures, signage, all displays, etc etc yadda yadda. it was literally to the bare walls... There was almost nothing left. Whoever buys the building here will get a completely blank slate to work with.

I'm wondering what will replace CompUSA, something more useful? (not sayikng that computers aren't usefulll.... just that when nothing's broken or needs an upgrade, it's just a useles building - CompUSA was.)
