| Nets
Since i just ran my first weather net of the season and cleaned off a healthy layer of rust on my skills. I figure we need a thread about nets and their etiquette.
I myself run weather and emergency nets when needed, and also run some scheduled nets as a backup net controller. The worst problem I have had to deal with is people passing through the area looking for a weather forecast for their drive. To which i usually respond "we have a severe weather net running, so things are looking a little rough. If you would like to report anything that meets severe criteria I would be glad to pass that traffic along." I of coarse am a little kinder if we really don't have a busy net.
Then again I hold the record for running the longest net for my weather office during an event that produced 20 hail reports and five reports of wall clouds. I didn't talk much the rest of that day, and promptly ordered a boom mic and foot switch.
So i ask you all what experiences do you all have with nets or in running nets? -- INFLOW-WI |

| So far this year the only weather net I have participated in has been our every Tuesday evening "readiness tests". It's on 2 meters, as most weather and emergency nets. And yes, I seem to remember from past years there were some of those "just driving through and would like a weather forecast" requests during a severe weather net. There are usually a few of those "looks good here...sun's coming out and I even see a rainbow" comments as well. hi hi
But anyways, the WX nets here seem very well run and efficient and seem to be very useful to the NWS and other authorities. The net controllers here do a great job! |
