Bandwidth Monitors

Okay, if anyone has used a regular bandwidth monitor like Bandwidth Monitor Pro on their computer, please let me know the results. I want to know how much WildBlue's claimed usage differs from what your computer actually gets. HELP! If you have compared, share please!!!

My sister plays a Game called FallenSword. Its 2d inside explorer and you page refresh it. WildBlue's monitor is jumping up like I downloaded 340MBs and my monitors are showing a whopping 60MBs used. It use to go up when she played NeoPets. A tech told me cut off the auto config script and auto detect in explorer way back, could this be causing it? Basicly since the 21st I according to two bandwidth monitors I am getting less than 50% of the download bandwidth I pay for. So over 50% of my alleged download bandwidth is Bogus. So any clue as to why so much? Don't replie Games take up bandwidth, other games don't do this. And if you have WildBlue, You might want to see what you are actually getting not just what they say you are getting. WildBlue is pretending everything is fine and ignoring what my monitors are saying. They have been rude and unhelpful. Just because a bandwidth monitor will tell you the truth about what is making it to your computer, don't expect WildBlue to care or anything. If you do it, do it as a reality check for you, not for them WildBlue doesn't care. I posted this in the wrong forum the first time, and it kinda doesn't want me to be a spammer I am just trying a)find out how bad WildBlue is for others. b) if hughesnet has the same problems before I spend $700 switching. I edited the other post so I hope it goes threw.

There is a theory that the FAP meter is located in the gateway and counts everything addressed to your computer that enters the gateway, rather than what actually makes it to your computer. The Sky-X gateways at the gateway prefetch the entire page from the Internet and then send it to you in chunks. If you cancel a page load before it completes, your computer may receive only a fraction of the page, but the FAP meter in the gateway, having received the entire page, counts all of it. Observations of my usage are consistent with this theory because WB's FAP meter tends to over-report my usage when I browse and cancel page loads, but is pretty accurate when I download or stream video.

If the big discrepancies between your actual usage and the FAP meter occur when you visit a particular site, then the problem is related to the site. I am not sure if enabling auto config script would cause discrepancies, but you could always try turning it off to test it.

Nothing helped that website. But if you want to prove the gateway thing, FallenSword is the place to go to do it. their monitor loves to go up with neopets and more with FallenSword. But it seems bandwidth doesn't drop off well. I'm seriously thinking of unhooking for 30 days to see if I go to zero or not.

@wildblue.net

Right before they made the switch to google, I was at around 5000mb, then I lost my connection entirely due to high winds. It took 2 weeks for them to come out and fix it. No internet connection for TWO WEEKS.
When I got back online, lo and behold, my usage had jumped up to over 8000mb !!

They never gave me a reason for it. But I damn well know it wasn't on MY SIDE. So, just saying.....30 days without internet just to test if it goes to zero may not get the results you hoped for.

Try using a router with firmware that supports bandwidth monitoring. I have a linksys with the tomato firmware.

The advantage is that it will get all the traffic going through your home network, not just one PC.

I have only had it a month, but it looks good.
