Trace route varies by location because of the nature of the way that "Anycast" works. It is supposed to be an improvement. "Anycast" works very well for Level 3 (4.x.x.x) and OpenDNS. I've not seen a lot of problems reported with the ATTIS "Anycast" DNS servers in AT&T Northeast, AT&T Southwest, or AT&T West. I have had no trouble in the S.F. Bay Area (AT&T West). The most problems I have seen reported with ATTIS DNS service have been in AT&T Midwest.
