[Line Problem] Sporratic connection with PRO Package

Well it's been a LONG time since I last posted here with a problem. I think it was 2 years ago where I came here with line issues with alot of noise and losing sync. Finally after installing a new NID 2 months of technicians coming to my house, and installing a POT splitter, the problem was finally resolved after cutting a bridge tap

Well anywho, when I finally had the problem resolved, AT&T gave me 3 months free, and upgraded our plan to the PRO package. Although I had a little high attenuation, the pro packaged worked flawlessly for 2 years. Lately I'm starting to lose sync again and lowered speed.

I have a Speedstream 4100, and the modem itself does the PPoE connection. I did a direct connection to the NID, and the outcome was the same as inside the house. Still, I replaced all the wires outside, and still no help. Currently my connection is

Max Allowed Speed (kbps) 1312 512
SN Margin (dB) 13.0 -
Line Attenuation (dB) 51.5 -
Loss of Signal 0 -
Loss of Frame 0 0
CRC Errors 2609 14

Usually it is at

Max Allowed Speed (kbps) 3008 512
SN Margin (dB) 10
Line Attenuation (dB) 54.5 or 55.5

I'm hoping there is someway to fix it without calling AT&T but it seems like it's going to have to happen.

I think this might be a line problem that will ultimately need AT&T intervention, but maybe not.

Please post the results, both DMT chart and missing tone bin results, from the DMT tool here: »www2.dslreports.com/faq/14165 for your line when it it has the slow speeds and when it is at the normal full speeds (maybe by doing a modem power cycle?) so that we can compare the line conditions under the two speeds.

Also when your modem is slowed, which hybrid # is listed in the modem log: »192.168.0.1/log.htm ?

When slowed it's Hybrid 1

Here is the chart when it's slowed

Downstream Maxrate (Estimated): 1844
Upstream Maxrate (Estimated): 941

Bit tones with notches/missing bits:

bit(s) 111:255 478.6875 - 1104 KHz

Here it is when it's at the right speed.

»img265.imageshack.us/img265/9182···drv6.png

Downstream Maxrate (Estimated): 3008
Upstream Maxrate (Estimated): 941

Bit tones with notches/missing bits:

bit(s) 38 163.875 - 168.1875 KHz
bit(s) 44:52 189.75 - 228.5625 KHz
bit(s) 101:104 435.5625 - 452.8125 KHz
bit(s) 131:140 564.9375 - 608.0625 KHz
bit(s) 146:152 629.625 - 659.8125 KHz
bit(s) 155 668.4375 - 672.75 KHz
bit(s) 160 690 - 694.3125 KHz
bit(s) 166:173 715.875 - 750.375 KHz
bit(s) 175 754.6875 - 759 KHz
bit(s) 183:185 789.1875 - 802.125 KHz
bit(s) 188:255 810.75 - 1104 KHz

The sync crashes about 1 minute and slowly starts to downgrade itself. It keeps crashing until it hits about 800kb/s and it stays pretty stable with exclusions of little sync drop here and there.

Although that problem chart looks nothing like line problems we have seen before, I still believe it is a major pair problem. I think your attenuation actually drops because the modem is restricted from using/testing the higher frequencies. We haven't seen anything quite like that attenuation drop before either.

Rather than call tech support, why don't you post a Trouble thread in AT&T Direct: »/forum/sbcdirect . They can check your stats and tone bins remotely. Put a link to this thread in your post there, so they can see just how bad your line gets in case it suddenly should start working normally when they do their remote testing.

The techs in Direct can arrange for a truck roll to work on your line once they have completed the remote tests.

Got a reply back on direct. Seems like sending a tech is the only option as of right now.

However, in direct David posted this »/r0/download/1···tats.pdf

It says I have a bridge tap, but about 2 years ago SBC cut the bridge tap that caused the problem a while back. =/

If you talk with the tech that fixes it, let us know what the problem was. It will be interesting to find out what causes this. I'm not certain that it is a simple bridged tap as their remote diagnostic software indicates. Something like an intermittent partial short to another pair comes to mind. This extra wiring could act as a "bridged tap" during the electrical connection to your line.

Well a tech came by today and found a short on the buried line.

They should be back tomorrow to repair it, hopefully everything will be fine then.
