[Need Info] Replace CATV w/ TVoIP - Software Options

What I'm trying to do is see if I can replace CATV with TVoIP.

The hardware aspects I can deal with. It's the software that is becoming a nightmare. I have been spending too much time on the internet in the last two weeks researching this.

So what software do you guys have do TVoIP?? (Draco says I'm probably going to have to use several).

Mod Note: Edited title for clarity

Some of the software options are listed in our forum side-bar - and our FAQ has a few as well:

»TVoIP FAQ »What Are Some Free Players I Can Use?
»TVoIP FAQ »As Submitted by Members

(Hardware is mostly handled in our Audio/Video Forum, but software? We can help with that)

Thanks LH.

At this point I'm going to load up MPC with FFD show codecs and JLC's InternetTV 1.1.0 along with the Joost player.

One problem that I'm finding is that several of these programs/websites don't seem to offer enough domestic content or are heavy on the indi content (and some of that content is not suitable for family). There as also lack of network content.

Ok,
I've got Joost up and running. I'm enjoying the Star Trek reruns. I'm a bit annoyed with Joost tho, There is some content there that I wouldn't be happy if my kids saw it. And then there isn't much content for kids (cartoons etc).

I've also signed up with Hulu. I haven't explored much over there. but I see that there seem to be more clips than actual full length shows.

I have also loaded up JLC's Internet TV viewer. It's OK, but the channels don't always work.

Those, plus a bunch of bookmarks in my web browser, and I'm getting some pretty complete coverage. I've got much more than the 99 cable channels I was getting before.

I feel confident enough about this experiment that I went out today and picked up a used Athalon 2500 system with a video out for the TV.

I'll keep you posted.
