Re: IMG update in MD...

Can anyone explain to me what was actually updated in teh IMG update for 4.23.08 done in Richmond VA? I can't see a difference!

There wasn't much of a difference. It was discussed a few times. The main thing was VOD speed, but some aren't noticing much of a difference there.

I's say it's much better than it used to be, although the speed/responsiveness varies a bit.

What I've noticed is the following:

1 - VOD menu and widget response, in general, is faster and I have had no VOD time-outs since the update.

2 - When the box reboots (as in after a power failure), there is no FiOS "nag" screen when you turn it on with the remote and the DVR's will now do (most) scheduled recordings without having to turn the box on to complete the reboot.

Other than that, I have not seen any other notable changes/improvements.

Rattler, I thought you and I did this test and it failed. It did not record after a reboot, you said only the manual recordings worked.

Knock on wood, but I haven't had a reboot since the new update. But even before, when I did get the "FIOS Starting ..." screen, my recordings would still start to record all on their own. Even the series recordings, not just the manual ones.

This new update has really sped up my VOD response times though. Now, I'm actually using VOD. Before it was so tedious, I had to be pretty desperate to use it.

matcarl...

I did a few more tests and it does retain and execute some of the guide-scheduled recordings. I haven't been able to identify what circumstance allows them to be retained. That's why I added the (most) comment in my post above. I don't know if it's guide-scheduled recordings that were scheduled before the box was cycled OFF - ON - OFF with the remote PRIOR to a power failure or what.

The whole issue is still somewhat unreliable, since I haven't been able to duplicate the required operations with any certainty. But, I have had a couple guide-scheduled recordings work after a power failure (had a real one yesterday from ~9 AM to ~2 PM) and two recordings worked last night, without me having turned on the box after the power failure.

Maybe that's what that new patch is that we are getting in two weeks. They said it's a patch to fix something that wasn't fixed right in the last patch. Who knows? It could also be the VOD speed which is still slow.

I don't understand what you mean. Do you mean buffering the previous channel? Try rebooting it.

Rattler, I got an answer to this from the Direct forum

"matcarl,

Thank you for your patience. Our IMG team has found a resolution to this issue; however, it will be going out with the next update, release 1.6. Unfortunately, I do not have an ETA. I apologize for the delay in response and any inconvenience this may cause. Hopefully there won't be any power issues prior to the next update. Please let me know if you have any questions or further concerns."
