| Need a recommendation
Looking for a music player that is cheap and uses a SD card to store music. I need it to play MP3, AAC, and WMA formats. I would like it to have a good battery life and standard AA or AAA battery preferred but if it's standard Li-ion that's ok to.
Price range anywhere below 200USD max is 250USD though.

| I suspect that what you're asking for doesn't exist, although I know it doesn't sound that difficult.
Unfortunately most (possibly all) players play either WMA *or* AAC but not both - they are formats from Microsoft and Apple and never the twain shall meet. There are also very few players that use AAA batteries these days because they are able to make such small/flat batteries that have a longer battery life than AAAs. A player with both a battery and an SD card slot is even more difficult to find because that would require such a bulky player, no one would want to buy it.
These combinations are doable: WMA + AAA battery WMA + SD card slot
But that's about all I can come up with...
The only possible solution I can find to the AAC / WMA problem is to find a player that uses Rockbox, which I *think* supports both of those formats (but not DRM, so if you bought them from iTunes or URGE or something you won't be able to use them with Rockbox). I'm not sure if Rockbox supports anything with an SD card slot, I would have to read up on it.
Questions I would ask you:
Do you REALLY need both WMA and AAC? Maybe there is another solution.
Do you REALLY need an SD card slot? Fairly high-capacity players are in your price range, maybe you wouldn't need an expansion slot after all. -- Killers and liars welcome |

I been looking at this one actually, for 16GB at that price I don't really need a SD card slot since I will never have a music library that big and if I do I would of already brought my entire laptop with me.
As for the swappable battery, well with 60hrs of playtime that's pretty freaking sweet, and with an FM tuner and all the other little things it includes, this player gives the most bang for your buck.
Also with it's high output, this means I can connect this player to my car stereo system and my music will sound crystal clear.
This one does not support AAC, but it has ogm support and MP3 support, so that's a good thing to know. |
