| [Troubles] using phone kills windstream 4200 modem connection
my dsl speed dropped down to half , along with getting knocked off alot. Tech came out and said they couldn't find anything wrong from there end to my house. I told the tech that I thought it was the modem, he said he didn't think it was , like many before him have told me. He put another larger box on the outside of my house , with a filter inside that the phone hooked to .He was going to talk to the engineer about running a new line from the other direction from a small town , that would allow me to have 3mb . Haven't heard back about that from him. My dsl still ran at half speed after he left.I am a trouble shooter where I work , for 32 yrs now , and didn't accept his answer about the modem . I went to a customers house where I do his computer repairs , asked to use his modem , which-ed turned out to be a SpeedStream 4200 modem/router. Mine was the older 5200 model. When I hooked it up , my speed went from the 800's , to 1340 , my highest speed ever.I took his modem back , and ordered a SpeedStream 4200 from windstream , which they gave me free. I have discovered that every time I use the phone , or someone calls me , the dsl drops out. I have only one phone hooked up , and have changed the filters 3 times on every thing that requires a filter , I even turned off the answering machine, which didn't make any differance. Now that makes two filters on the phone line that the phone is hooked to . The filter outside in the new box , and the one at the phone . All filters were checked to make sure the items were pluged in the proper side of the filter. All new phone line was ran by me last yr. Remember that I am a industial trouble shooter . Although my distance at this time is what may cause some of the disconnects , it shouldn't be a cause for when I use the phone . dsl also drops around 9:10 each night now that I am watching the connection status thru the router on the 192.168.254.254 ip address. When I took another one of my computers and moved it over by the window where the box is connected to wall outside , and connected it direct. I found that my connection speed was at best 1150 to 1210 using the status read out in the dsl mode on the router ip address 192.168.254.254 , and the snr was only 8.0 , and dropping in and out , which turned out to be worse than my inside wire reading on the other computer , which I got a reading of 1533 , snr 11.5 , atten is 63.5 for both ways |
