| [TWC] RR Charlotte Upgrade!!!
Alright, well I'm tired of the expensive prices and slow speeds so I sent TWC an e-mail and complained. I complained about the price and the fact that compared to the rest of the country where RR is offered, we are lagging way behind in bandwidth. I told them I know they have no competition but they should bump us up regardless! Here is their response:Thank you for writing. Our Turbo Service is up to 8Mb. At this time there is no faster residential service that we offer. There is testing for higher speeds to be available for our customers being done at this time. We do not have a specific release date. We will do our best to let all of our customers know as soon as this does become available.
If you are a Digital Phone customer, we now offer One World with One Phone at One Price.

| reply to xxTRAGEDYxx nah, i dont think so. I'm a directional driller w/ a company who subs from TWC, and we've been installing miles and miles of conduit around CLT for the past 2yrs. Meanwhile as soon as we leave, someones behind us pulling the fiber. For no reason?!? I don't belive so..I've heard a few rumors from techs, but I won't speculate.. Just look at the topic from the RR RTP guy.. he was all but told the date of their upgrade.. It's coming soon..I bet ya!! |

This is news to me. Which topic is this? Would be nice, but I don't see it happening any time soon since there's no competition here at the moment. |

| reply to xxTRAGEDYxx Oh...yeah...I posted in that topic. I can see Charlotte getting a speed bump way before Raleigh does. I'd be willing to bet some cash that AT&T will deploy U-verse in Charlotte before Raleigh (or any other area they serve in NC), and it's my understanding that Windstream offers ADSL2+ in parts of Charlotte or in the Charlotte area at speeds of 12/786. This is most likely why Charlotte will get a speed bump from TWC soon.
Until AT&T deploys U-verse in Raleigh and/or Verizon deploys FIOS in Durham there's absolutely no reason for TWC to do a speed bump in Raleigh. I've seen absolutely no indication that either one is coming to the Raleigh/Durham area any time soon. AT&T had a big hoopla press event almost a year ago in Raleigh about U-verse coming to NC (no specific areas mentioned), and they said there would be another press release at the end of 2007 with more info and possible dates. That second press release still hasn't happened.
TWC speed bumps are done by franchise, and Raleigh and Charlotte are two different TWC franchises (even though they're in the same state). TWC has three franchises in NC. Charlotte, Triad, and Eastern NC. They recently merged the Raleigh/Durham franchise with the Eastern NC franchise. The only way I'd see Raleigh getting a speed bump from TWC before U-verse or FIOS comes around is if there's some little podunk town that's part of the Eastern NC franchise which has Windstream as the local telco, and Windstream adds ADSL2+ there. |

| reply to xxTRAGEDYxx Windstream Officially Announces 12Mbps ADSL2+ New network upgrades available in select areas... 06:28PM Monday Apr 28 2008 by Karl
Though we alerted you last week that Windstream was now offering 12Mbps ADSL2+ , the company made it official today with a press release. "Windstream experienced a four-fold increase in Internet usage in 2007 as our broadband customer base grew 28 percent year-over-year," says a company rep. "This network upgrade allows us to offer faster speeds at greater distances, enabling customers to accomplish more in less time through a dedicated Internet connection at a great value." The 12Mbps/1Mbps tier is $19.99 for the first six months, and $45 per month after that (though some of our users is less competitive markets are being quoted prices $5 higher).
I hope this makes TWC recognize, and bump up their speeds!! Although I'm sure they'll have to lose quite a bit of business for them to get in gear.... |

| reply to Obrj said by Obrj :this is some bullcrap. They upgrade in Greensboro but not Charlotte? That makes no sense to me. I would be very surprised if Charlotte didn't get the upgrade as well. That would be a little odd if they upgraded both the Eastern Carolina and Triad divisions and not Charlotte. Those are the only 3 TWC divisions in NC, and both Eastern Carolina and Triad are being upgraded tomorrow. |

@rr.com | reply to xxTRAGEDYxx It appears it's in effect. I'm in indian trail and have turbo. My old config was 8x512. I pulled the plug and rebooted the modem at 12:50 AM and I'm now at 10x512.
Not much of a big deal for me, would have preferred more upload speed. |
