Economics Forum?

With the economy doing its ups and downs, why not allow members to share their experiences with real estate, local prices, trends, job markets and even local markets and how they are seeing changes.

I think it would be interesting and beneficial to our members.

Sorry, still object for the same reason I stated in the thread tmpchaos See Profile linked to.

There are certain things people should get professional advice about, two of them being medical problems and finances/investing.

Financial forums on the internet tend to be chock full of misinformation, speculation, conjecture, and outright BS. While that is ok to have in a sports forum I guarantee somebody will follow the advice given in the forum without any professional input and just wind up screwing their finances.

I found the DSLR website a while ago because I was shopping for a Broadband ISP. I have since found a ton of new toys from the Users Find Hot Deals forum.
And I have made new friends in my local area and all over the US from the Gaming Forums and from the social forums. I have posted in lots of forums, asking for and giving help and advice.
Friendly knowledge and some shared experiences can go a long way. There is a ton of great information that has exchanged hands over the years on this great site. The potential of expanding with new forums that have rules and are moderated can have great benefits.

This is a friendly site, and some people do happen to be professionals on here. But if someone wants to talk about how they have seen some homes in their area being marketed in a new way or the newest news about how Ford is being restructured and why it will be a better company we can talk in a designated forum instead of The Pub, The Cooler and wherever else no one would know to look.

I am not advocating spamming or speculating or giving advice on calls and puts. Just a place where we can talk about our experiences or what is going on in our own area and compare. Technology allows us to communicate faster and easier so why not? I was on another site where I have no friends but the conversations were great. Some guy bought a house in omaha for what my car costs. And similar homes here are like $600k and up. Comparing markets, taxes, different ways of investing, can lead to people going to get professional financial advice. Ya never know. I have become so much more productive from the technology this site has allowed me to buy, learn, use.

BS financial advice can come from professionals too. I am not asking what stock to buy or for inside info. More like, do you rent or own? How are the rentals in your area? Maybe a large company is moving into your area and there will be more jobs or maybe your company is laying a bunch of people off and you want to sell your house. Knowing how some people marketed their home or where they moved to would help you out. More economy/market related than money or finance. I don't know if Finance if the right title then.

I've said it before.

People should contact professional financial planners and not internet trolls for financial advice.

Re: Economics Forum?

A recession is not boring. It affects everyone. 1 in about 200 homes are in foreclosure or just about through the process.

Some wholesale stores like Costco and BJs are rationing the amount of rice being sold. Are food prices increasing in your area yet?

Gas prices are increasing every day. I live close to the NY State border and around 5pm there are lines down the street at gas stations because NJ gas prices are lower than NY. How is your state doing?

The FED is cutting another half point decreasing it to 2%. How are you going to use this change in rates?

Bush wants to have a summer without taxes on Gas. Do you think this will help our economy at all, long term?

Farmers are ditching food crops for Biofuel crops because of the profitability. Does this affect your job?

I would like to hear people who have shared many years of stories and experiences give their 2 cents.

There are enough social forums here that can handle it, and are probably better suited for it.
