A forum dedicated to this topic would probably, after a few weeks, be a virtual cobweb collector and I also agree that getting economic advice from "internet trolls" is ill advised and probably not something the owners of the site want to be seen encouraging or assisting in. On the other hand, that is not to say those wish to post anecdotal stuff should be prevented from doing so.

How about a running-thread in one the existing forums for posting such anecdotal economic stuff with a disclaimer prominently displayed? A fair compromise?

Economics covers more than just what is on the stock market.
Morgage rates, gold, silver, platuim, information from the Federal reserve comes in daily affecting the market and our lettuce.

Have a scrolling RSS feed across the top with real time stock information.

Colleges that teach Economics could be listed, online scams and real economic news.

Have an alert area for economic news that is false, breaking news.

Some other ideas;

Most of the challenging problems being confronted nationally and globally are economic in nature. When you study economics, you gain an understanding of the essential backdrop for current social and economic issues and debates. A major in economics gives you familiarity with the frameworks and methods that are used to analyse the issues and inform the debates. The learning and skills you acquire will equip you for a wide range of jobs in the public and private sectors.

Microeconomics is about decision-making by individuals and firms and how resources are priced and allocated efficiently through markets. It is also about how the market mechanism can fail and what should be done to rectify the problems encountered.

Macroeconomics looks at the big picture: income and growth, wealth and poverty, business cycles, inflation and unemployment, interest rates, exchange rates, and the balance of trade and payments. It examines the role for government intervention and the consequences of alternative policies.

You can specialise in economics within either the Arts or Commerce programmes. It is not necessary to have studied economics previously. Stage I courses provide all students with a basic understanding of the key concepts and techniques of analysis and their application to real-world problems. Economics graduates are in strong demand from a wide range of employers in both the public and private sectors.

This is a friendly site, and some people do happen to be professionals on here. But if someone wants to talk about how they have seen some homes in their area being marketed in a new way or the newest news about how Ford is being restructured and why it will be a better company we can talk in a designated forum instead of The Pub, The Cooler and wherever else no one would know to look.

I am not advocating spamming or speculating or giving advice on calls and puts. Just a place where we can talk about our experiences or what is going on in our own area and compare. Technology allows us to communicate faster and easier so why not? I was on another site where I have no friends but the conversations were great. Some guy bought a house in omaha for what my car costs. And similar homes here are like $600k and up. Comparing markets, taxes, different ways of investing, can lead to people going to get professional financial advice. Ya never know. Friendly knowledge and some shared experiences can go a long way. There is a ton of great information that has exchanged hands over the years on this great site. Financial forums on the internet tend to be chock full of misinformation, speculation, conjecture, and outright BS. While that is ok to have in a sports forum I guarantee somebody will follow the advice given in the forum without any professional input and just wind up screwing their finances.
