| best antenna 11db + diversity or 14db standard?
I would like to buy two directional antenna for two Linksys wrt54g router.
I really don't know if I should buy an 11db directional with spatial diversity (two cable) or 14db antenna but standard model (1 cable)
I think I should buy the 14db one, and use the second port of the router with the original antenna to broadcast locally, But I'm not sure the antenna with diversity wouldn't give me more range and stability. I don't really care to broadcast locally if I have a better distant link.
My link will be almost L O S with a distance of 500 feet

You shouldn't need 14dBi to go 500 feet although I don't know what almost LOS means.

we may have a small part of a tree between the router if the wind goes up.
if we use the 14db that only use one antenna port can't we leave the original antenna on the second port? |

| Diversity switching does not happen fast enough to alternate between packets. Either locate the AP so that it can serve both local and distant clients or use a second AP. Directional antennas don't turn radio waves into laser beams. There is still some coverage to the sides and back.

stick with 14dbi and keep it pointed in the direction you want most the gain to go towards - you'll still get plenty of signal out the back. |

The WRT54G can only use one antenna at a time. So if you use a regular omnidirectional antenna on one antenna connection and a directional antenna on the other connection, only one of the antennas can work at any given time. So if you use your "local" antenna + directional antenna idea, think about how much traffic each antenna will have. If either your local or directional antenna will be in use quite a bit, I'd leave one antenna port unconnected and simply use the directional antenna. Buy an inexpensive access point for your "local" use. |
