Spending the Tax Rebate Check

I ran to check the mail today but no check - darn. I don't exactly know if I'll get one because the IRS may claim it. Long boring story about the wife, the houses, the missing tax papers and such - later.

I can't wait for that check though. Maybe I'll give it to Sears for a gift card worth 10% more than the check. Then maybe Sears will stop charging 28% interest on balances - maybe not.

Maybe just give it to the wife as a kind gesture! Maybe not.
Maybe fill up the SUV and take a trip around the Beltway. Maybe not.
I think it may be best spent to play a few rounds at various golf courses I have not played before - I'll take a cart please!

Any ideas on how to spend this windfall??

I'm planning on getting the full $1200 for my wife and myself. I plan on adding a bit (quite a bit) more and finally getting that 46" HDTV from BJ's that we've been drooling over for 4 years. My wife and I have been very fortunate not to have been affected by the Recession as much as others have.

Got our notice yesterday that it was going to be direct-deposited into the same account our taxes noted...at some point in the near future.

Ours is going in the bank. I'd prefer it to go into the kids' - woefully underfunded - college fund...but will likely get spent on the next automotive or appliance repair bill that is surely lurking around the corner...

What recession?

The standard newspaper definition of a recession is a decline in the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) for two or more consecutive quarters....still waiting on the first month of a GDP going negative.
