[AT&T] Data plan for Treo 680

I just upgraded mine and my wife's phones to some refurbished Treo 680s. I was planning on adding a data plan to the phones so they could be used to check email and use IM. Yesterday I discovered that the cost for the PDA data plan is $30 per month per phone. That's outrageous!

Is this really the only method of getting online with a Treo? $60/month is rape when all we want is email connectivity. Any thoughts/suggestions would be welcomed!

While I agree that's pretty high, you probably should have checked prices on data plans before purchasing a device used for data.

I can't argue with that, although I probably would have purchased the phones anyway.

I was just quite surprised. I can recall using GPRS on T-Mobile a couple years ago for free. I think the $30 includes tethering, and was intended for more of a cellular power user, which is not me!

I'd be willing to pay $30 for both lines together, but that much for each phone is ridiculous.

My provider charges $20 per line so i guess $60 isn't soo far off. (or you can cheat the system with the $5.99 data plan if you know how to use the proxy settings. LoL..) But at&t's data pricing is kinda high. You should have looked at the prices before getting a device that uses data.

If you really want to see if there is anything you can do, check with this forum. They might have some ideas or different rare rate plans that might work better.

Good luck!

Lots of information there, thanks!

I only paid $39 for each Treo, so if we only end up using a subset of its capabilities I'll still be happy...just not as happy
