salahx join:2001-12-03 Saint Louis, MO | Gentoo revokes developer rights of 3, Cabal suspected. More trouble brewing in the Gentoo community. Three different developers were "involuntarily retired". Why? Unless you're a member of The Cabal, its a secret. However, all 3 are Paludis developers. The project is run is the notorious ex-developer Ciaran McCreesh, aka ciaranm, who himself had his developer rights revoked under less-than-transparent circumstances. Gentoo has been suffering from a lack of developers for quite some time. This is yet another divisive blow to the Gentoo community. Read more about it in Planet Gentoo. |

Checking in too many bugs? Not enough output? Nailing the project leader's daughter? Running Windows?

GILXA1226Premium,MVM join:2000-12-29 London, OH | reply to salahx I really hope gentoo gets it's collective sh*t in order. I've been using it since before 1.0 days and have yet to find a distro (short of rolling my own with LFS) that easily allows me to do what I'm able to do with gentoo. Now of course this probably has to do with the fact that I've been using it for so long, but still. I've kept up-to-date VM's of SuSe and Ubuntu, however neither really pulls me in quite like Gentoo does.
That being said, I think if gentoo isn't able to get it's collective sh*t in order you'll probably see a fork happen soon before it's collapse. -- We don't give a d@mn for the whole state of Michigan... we're from OHIO! O!H! ... I!O! |

I don't know the 3 latest to go, but if they're even close to as caustic as McCreesh, then good riddance. -- Overpower, overcome. |

salahx join:2001-12-03 Saint Louis, MO | reply to salahx I don't know what the story behind ciaranm, he does come off as pretty caustic. One of the things he said once was pretty funny though: said by »www.mail-archive.com/gentoo-dev@···809.html : Your solution is approximately on par with fixing a wobbly chair by sawing off all four legs and then attaching what's left to a crocodile.

salahx join:2001-12-03 Saint Louis, MO | reply to salahx Well, the Gentoo council met today , however, these wasn't enough time (among other things) to discuss the "enforced retirement" issue .The Council will be holding another meeting next week at the same time for this issue. The actual appeals won't be held then however. Apparently, until now, no one has ever appealed. |

salahx join:2001-12-03 Saint Louis, MO | reply to salahx The meeting was today, unfortunately only 2 of the 7 council members showed, and according to their own rules (GLEP 39), if less than 50% of the council is present for a meetings, the entire council must be re-elected. (However the council already met this month, so there's debate as to whether or not this should apply).
Like the Gentoo Project needs any MORE chaos. |
