and according to their own rules (GLEP 39), if less than 50% of the council is present for a meetings, the entire council must be re-elected.
Ciaran McCreesh was responsible for many of those GLEP's...

Like DRobbins or not, at least when he was running crap there was continuity. The more and more sh*t that goes on with gentoo the more I seriously start to consider a fork.

The meeting was today, unfortunately only 2 of the 7 council members showed, and according to their own rules (GLEP 39), if less than 50% of the council is present for a meetings, the entire council must be re-elected. (However the council already met this month, so there's debate as to whether or not this should apply).

Like the Gentoo Project needs any MORE chaos.

Well, the Gentoo council met today , however, these wasn't enough time (among other things) to discuss the "enforced retirement" issue .The Council will be holding another meeting next week at the same time for this issue. The actual appeals won't be held then however. Apparently, until now, no one has ever appealed.
It sounds to me the council has issues prioritizing too... I would expect this kind of a conflict to take front and center at a meeting.

Well, ok, but I've been involved in open source development for a very long time. Just not that project.

Go read the Cathedral and the bazaar and you will understand a bit better.
Um, that doesn't really speak to the personality issues in the Gentoo project

Speaking from my Forums Council perspective, I am disappointed by the complete lack of transparency in the process though....

Agreed.

I don't know the 3 latest to go, but if they're even close to as caustic as McCreesh, then good riddance.
My thoughts precisely.

I don't know what the story behind ciaranm, he does come off as pretty caustic. One of the things he said once was pretty funny though:

Your solution is approximately on par with fixing a wobbly chair by
sawing off all four legs and then attaching what's left to a crocodile.

I really hope gentoo gets it's collective sh*t in order. I've been using it since before 1.0 days and have yet to find a distro (short of rolling my own with LFS) that easily allows me to do what I'm able to do with gentoo. Now of course this probably has to do with the fact that I've been using it for so long, but still. I've kept up-to-date VM's of SuSe and Ubuntu, however neither really pulls me in quite like Gentoo does.

That being said, I think if gentoo isn't able to get it's collective sh*t in order you'll probably see a fork happen soon before it's collapse.

I don't know anything about this - what kinds of things will get your dev rights revoked?

Checking in too many bugs?
Not enough output?
Nailing the project leader's daughter?
Running Windows?

I just have no idea how these circles work...

Good, he's a tool and was one of the main factors that led to the downfall of Gentoo. He should of been gone and any traces of his projects scuttled long ago.
