A few pics from a new Colo we've just installed. OC-48 and DWDM transport, Optical, Ethernet, DS3, and DS1 tribs.

Sorry for the quality - Camera's not good up close...

Why stop at a DS3??? There's a couple of free Gig-E ports, and there is a 10Gig channel passing through the site...

I'm not sure how long it took the tech's that did those particular ones; but I used to be able to dress, lace, and terminate an 84 jack panel in about 3-4 hours.

Dress lace and terminate for those who don’t know is the ONLY correct way to place permanent low voltage cabling within the distribution framework of a building regardless of its application.

As lacing requires a learned skill and takes time it has been replaced over the past twenty years or so with the dreaded Ty-Wrap a cable crushing non-supporting flesh slashing method of lashing for dummies.

We are not far from the days when a walk between the lineups will be a trek through a gauntlet where one seldom exits without a few good slashes to ones body.

Since I'm curious, what IS the correct way to dress, lace, and terminate LV cable? Or can you point me to a text document? (the pics obviously do no good... )

That's a quick rundown; there are other styles, but in a nutshell, it involves waxed cotton string; time, and care...

IMO it's worth noting lacing unlike Ty-Wraping not only securely holds the cabling without crushing it also supports the cabling by binding them to each other and the frame which is something a Ty-Rap cannot do.

Indeed Wayne.

I have come across a few places where I see lacing coming back into the world now that we are more reliant on high-speed data. Ty-wrap methods of securing those cables are so damaging that they cause a loss in throughput, or damage fiber optic cabling.

Who in the world still sells lacing twine, I haven't used any since a large control job in 84?

Depends on the operating company, what the standards are...

For my current employer, power has to be laced; signal
cable can be laced or ty-wrapped (my crews lace it all - I'm a dick like that - sorry...)

I've worked for companies that insisted on all lacing; and one RBOC I did some work for in the Southern US, insisted on all ty-wraps!?! Oh well, that's what they want, that's what they get...
