VDSL in Denver

Hi guys

I believe VDSL is available in Denver. I'd like to learn more about how it is deployed and what services are available over it. We are testing it in our lab but want to understand what is happening elsewhere.

I will be in Denver in June and would love to meet with engineers or VDSL project people

In particular I'm interested if mid-point insertion is used and what vendor DSLAM is used

Thanks

It's probably not VDSL, it's ADSL2+. For the FTTN they are using Adtran DSLAM's that are remotely located next to the FDI.

IIRC VDSL is available in the Highlands Ranch area.

No its definitely VDSL. I had a short discussion with them last year but unfortunately have misplaced the contact details.

Qwest is no longer deploying VDSL. The entire focus has shifted to ADSL2+. There are no USAMS installed in Denver proper as we never had a franchise agreement there. You will only find it in the Highlands Ranch area, and that's about it. Only the Phoenix metro area had a more wide spread deployment of VDSL. They're not expanding that market anymore either.

All the equipment used for VDSL was from next level communications which motorola bought and subsequently dismantled. Motorola never put further development towards set top box technology for VDSL which is why Qwest TV doesn't have it's own DVR.

So what your saying is I have a Outdated Piece of Poo?

Although my statement might be harmful to some. I really do like the service I am getting from IPTV.

The last release was the RG3000 gateway which offered HDTV. It looks like all the pages for the VDSL products are gone from motorola.com.

Qwest was granted a cable card waiver based on the premise that this was a dead-end technology that wouldn't be continued.

From what the CEO has said recently it sounds like they're just going to point people to DirecTV.

Possible Qwest techs will later install DirectTV.
