| [IE] Bypass Proxy?
Hey folks,
I work at a place that has the computers locked down pretty tight. Our connections setup is set to go through a proxy for any outgoing Internet connection (set in the Internet Options on the Connections Tab).
This proxy is strictly a content filter to keep me from being unproductive at work. If I uncheck the proxy, I can bypass the filter and hit the Internet just fine.
The unfortunate situation is that they figured out that you could bypass it and disabled the tab. The group policy editor is locked out and I'm having no luck browsing sites like guildportal.com, worldofwarcraft.com and casualcollective.com.
My question is, is there a way to bypass a proxy in the address bar? Something you may put before or after a web address? Or any other ideas perhaps?
Thanks. -- I melt faces. |

Even though you didn't answer my question directly... I'm afraid the question was answered and it may not be possible. |

| reply to Archivis I've been posting here for what, 6? 7? years?
I've assisted hundreds of people across a multitude of forums, including my several years as an ISP employee who helped hundreds of people get their connections working.
I don't appreciate the arrogant, elitist judging comments. I'm not some person who hasn't paid their dues on this site and I thought the folks around here were better than that.
I've helped my fair share of people around here, being one of countless people who have given this site the reputation it has.
If there's no solution, then simply say so. Otherwise shut the **** up. I do my job, I do it well. What's it matter what I do when I've caught up on my work, or during my lunch break. -- I melt faces. |

| Other possibilities:
1) Install another browser. The proxy settings are just for IE. You could also try something like Portable Firefox, which might not require any actual installation
2) Reboot your machine with a LiveCD that contains a browser, if you don't have priviliges to install software. |

| Thanks for the suggestions. It gets a bit more complicated. We go through Remote Terminal Services, which means we can't install didly. LiveCD would only affect the local machine and wouldn't go across the terminal.
I read up on the Portable Firefox and if it were a stand alone browser without requiring an install, it might work. Hmm. I'll have to think about that one more.
Thank you though for the first thoughtful response in this thread. |

@reenhealthcare.com | reply to Archivis I use to work for a large finical institution, one of America's largest, IE was locked down hard. I found that Firefox has many plugins that could defeat GP/Proxy servers and what not and allow me to surf any where I wanted. |

| reply to Archivis Maybe an idea: Set-up your own server @home and connect it via IP:80 or dyndns.org. If you can use a SSL-connection @work the content-filter should´nt be able to monitore and block the content. -- Regards from Germany. Please excuse my stumbling English |

| reply to Archivis Figured it out.
Even the start menu is disabled, but Windows Key + R isn't.
regedit
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ Internet Settings]
Disable proxy.
Restart IE.
Works. -- I melt faces. |
