Call me when it's free

I don't pay for cellphones.

I am with you on this. It is ridiculous what they charge for phones when they cost a fraction of the retail price to actually produce. But I guess as there are enough idiots out there willing to spend the money, they will continue to over charge them. What killed me the most is when soo many of these idiots then bitched about them suddenly dropping the price a little while back.

I'm the opposite, I rather buy the cellphone and not enter into a contract, then get a free phone, and be forced into a contract.

I'm going to have phone service for 2 years, actually more than that.

I know AT&T and like their service.

Why wouldn't I want to be "forced" into a contract if it saves me $200+?

I never said you shouldn't, I was relating my experience. I like to know that I have the power to transfer my service to another wireless carrier if my current provider isn't performing as expected - without any ETF.

while I do pay for a phone - I never pay more than $70 and I will keep it till it dies/breaks and not a moment sooner. because of that - I am contract free and have been for over a year with Verizon.

I wish I could get back with Cincy Bell since they do not have any contracts at all but since my IL's are on my plan and they have a contract, we have good service, and we use virtually no minutes since all we do is call each other - no reason to switch.

I'm with you. No phone is worth a contract. If I can't buy it outright, I don't buy it, period.
