I was reading Forbes' article on the subject, and they happened to make the comment that the largest holder of the publicly-traded portion of Time Warner Cable is Adelphia Communications... are they really still around?

The Adelphia estate is still around, yes. It is in process of distributing assets, once complete, it will dissolve.
