Anyone have databases or user bases for sale?

Im looking to buy databases or sites with an already made user base. Ive found a few sites to buy databases, but they look old and over used. Im looking for a side project, so if you have a db or know of sites that sell dbs about anything Id like to take a look

Sort of a strange request, but when I can see what data I have available, I can come up with ideas. Alternatively if you have a site with a community or user base drop me a line

Pardon me for saying so, but would these users appreciate their information being sold to you?

I'd expect he would be looking for user bases where the user as part of signing up has consented to this type of usage.

Sure, it may be legal, but that doesn't make it something that people actively approve of.

I have seen website developers request this kind of information for the purpose of fattening up their user base. I assume this is done so as to make their site more attractive to future visitors to sign up.

Is that what this is for?

My sister and brother-in-law have some marketing firm that feeds them sales leads, they get them in .csv file. So, if not what johnqpublic mentioned, then are you looking for sales leads. I sort of assume since you are describing the current batch you have as "old and overused..." that you are looking for leads, not lists.

If you fess up the purpose, maybe I can ask them. Although I should note that they pay $$ for the leads they get. If I remember right, the company harvests users who opt-in passively and actively for the premium lists, and the cheaper lists are drawn from public information. Eh, it's been a long time since I talked to them about this, since I consider passive opt-in as user abuse.

No, I'm not talking about sales leads. I'm talking about people who go about creating a clone of something like adult friend finder (for lack of another example) or some other social networking site and then populate the site with nonexistent or borrowed user base.

I've seen other databases available for sale. Recipes, jokes, whatever.

However, I don't mean to insinuate that John is doing anything unethical or anything.

Sure, but how many of us have unwittingly ended up in one of these databases? The practice itself is something that should be discouraged, IMHO.

Think I didnt come across right. Im looking for a side project.

A friend of mine just got a furniture site that's sorta like ebay, we both have put a bunch of work into it because it had a userbase. I dont want to start trying to build a community, its freakin hard lol. I wanted to see if there where any already built sites I could buy and improve upon.

The other thing was not a db of clients, just random available data. I had an idea a long time ago to do use google maps to map out all the gas stations selling green diesel, but I got beat to it because I couldn't find the data. I asked like every government agency there was.

I tried ebay, but its all bs spam.

Any ideas are great
