coax (and speaker wires) coming up from the floor

In my living the previous owners drilled holes through the carpet and floor into the crawl space to run speaker and coax cables. I would like to dress it up or something so my question...is there a product that does such a thing? Face plate or something of that nature.

Thanks.

There are specialized floor boxes that usually have brass covers that can be closed for areas that would be walked on. Hubble makes them but they are expensive.

If this is going near a wall and no one will walk on it then buy a wall box (those blue "old work" boxes) and cut a hole in the floor to fit it.

Lowes and Home Depot sell face plates for all sorts of connections, I know they have coax and I think they have speaker. You can also find this stuff online.

Also, if it IS close to a wall (and I suspect it is but the previous owner was too lazy or lacked the knowledge to do it right) then you can rerun them in wall.

A little trick I used at my old place (to avoid buying an installer bit at Home Depot for $50) was to pull off the baseboard, cut a hole in the drywall behind it (but not high enough that it wouldn't be covered by the baseboard when I put it back on), drill my hole through the sole plate into the basement/crawlspace and fish the wire up into the wall space. Next, you cut another hole in the drywall at the height you want the wires to exit the wall and put in an electrical box, then fish the wires up the wall from the hole you just made below. Then, when all wires have been fished up through the wall, replace baseboard and the first hole is covered.

That's pretty much what we did while we were installing pergo (hence the no baseboards being down).

If the outlets are needed in the floor, then the floor boxes are the way to go. Various companies make ones that are suitable for low voltage cable connections. Depending on which models and your budget, they are not that expensive.

Otherwise, if they are close to the wall, pulling out the cables and running them in the wall with the appropriate boxes and wall plates.

The holes are "very" close to the walls and Wow! Thanks all for the suggestions. I would prefer to run the wires into the wall but I have two issues with that.

One wall is 14' high and load bearing (vaulted roof and second floor bedroom). Directly under it (in the crawl space) is an 4" x 8" running the length of the wall (held up by 4"x4" posts to the footers). Would it be called a support beam (I know very little about construction terminology). In another house I was able to drill directly thought the sole/sill plate into the basement to run my coax and speaker wires. This could be an option but I don't want to mess with the integrity of the structure.

The other wall is an outside wall so I would be fighting with the foundation and insulation. Know any tricks to work around that?

Thank you all for the suggestions.

Drill diagnolly through the 2x8, as close as you can get to not touching it. If you nick the top, it's OK. The outside wall is same as any other wall. You're only going up 14 inches or so. You can get some kind of coat hanger/snake or something after making the holes and you're good. Insulation makes it a little tricky, but you can get a wire through.

I'm guessing you'll have a space between your foundation and the bottom of the wall to get a wire up. I'd cut the hole I need first, then drill up underneath where the hole is through the bottom plate of the wall.

I used to do this stuff in another life, but not much with crawlspaces. Just make sure there are no cables, pipes, dogs, etc.. in the wall before drilling cutting. good luck.
