| [TWC] NYC disappointing HD update (queens)
All I can say is wow. I was very excited that we were finally getting a large amount of HD channels . My wife and I came home from work and started going down the line up and we were very disappointed.
First let me start with the fact that most of the channels that they call "HD" are no in HD. NY1 and CNN Disney and ABC Family are the four most disappointing channels. there is nothing HD about it. maybe 10% if the shows are in HD.
The rest of the channels seem to up converting which I can deal with at the time. Its better then nothing and looks better then the SD channels. Discovery,Science and the Travel channel are good.
Why couldn't they give us channels USA or SCI-FI? Oh wait that would be to easy for them
I hope there is another update soon |

| Ya i was extremely disappointed too. They did say that they will add another 50 channels by years end, though. They will probbely give us the new channels around december to give people the false sense of an early christmas gift.  |

Is this the new correct way to speak or write english?
Second, back to the HD topic. I understand that some feeds are not sending true HD and TWC is not responsible for the content. I have TWC in Harlingen, TX and some of the HD content is just stretched SD. The funny thing is that my DirecTV is the same so I assume that the feed is the problem. Could this be the case in NY? |

when you see channels like A&EHD or Disney its not the cable companies problem that the programing is not in HD its the cable channels. Understand this many channels including NY1 decided to launch a so called HD channels because they want a spot in the cable line up due to lack of bandwidth and afraid of being left out, or another cable channels taking the spot.An example of this is TBSHD last fall the channel launched, but it didn't have any content on HD , only the MLB games,now a couple weeks ago they started putting content out in HD.Disney eventually will go HD 100% samething as CNN. |

I'm trying to understand, how TW selects, who should be on HD and who is not... How sources with only SD become HD? They paing TW for it? Or TW makes this selection based on something else? I don't need M HD or Food HD, but on the end of the year my bill will go up, because of TW "provided" HD "upgrade"... Today, in XXI cenchury, with digital technology we should be able select, what to have and pay for it! "A la carte" service will select, who should be on the market, and who should go... |

First I would like to address the person who said something about "then and than". I'm typing fast and didn't bother checking all the grammatical errors that might be in my post.That is why you might see some mistakes. you will see many mistakes when reading forums.
Back to the topic.
I know its the networks that are not broadcasting in HD but I feel there are many other networks out there that do broadcast mostly in HD that TWC could have added. Many people are stating to get tired of not having Programing in HD. I got my first HDTV in 2002 and there has been little done in terms of content since then. |

| I, like you, have been disappointed by the lack of HD content provided thus far. That being said, it isn't fair to single out/blame TW for the content. TW is not responsible for a content/programing on those particular channels. I will say that while TW has been dreadfully slow to add HD channels they seem to be making a concerted effort now.
Oh, one last thought. Perhaps TW's delay in adding channels has something to do with the "piss poor" amount of HD programming available. Not even the networks provide HD content 100% of the time.

Like what? HD Net, HD Net Movies, Universal HD, MHD, and Mojo HD are pretty much the only channels that contian 100% HD content, unstreached, all the time, and most TW franchises carry all those channels.

On the one hand, be glad you got some new HD channels. I keep getting mail about all of the exciting new channels they're adding, but my guide shows same-o same-o.
On the other, I noticed there's no SciFi HD logo in their predicted list. USA HD and Sci Fi HD are probably the two channels I'm MOST interested in. I've even written to Time Warner requesting them. I'm sure that means they just haven't come to an agreement with NBC/Universal yet, but c'mon!

I got my first HDTV in 1999. HD has massively changed since then. Almost everything I watch is now HD. The only big one I'm missing is Battlestar Galactica ... oh, wait, that's available in HD, I just can't get it!
As far as all of the SD upconverting on new HD channels, look at the bright side, at least there's better color and less compression. Content will come, but they need the delivery mechanism in place first. |

how about NY1, Fox business, MSG+hd.... rather then those couldn't we have Sci-FI HD and USA HD ?
bottom line is that its great that TW is making steps to give us more HD channels but this update wasn't that impressive hopefully the next update will be soon and we will get some more channels that are worth watching. |

USA and SciFi? Why would I want to watch a bunch of old syndicated programming and cut up commercial ridden movies? No thanks. MSG+ (FSN NY) is not one of my RSNs, but MSG HD was my most wanted HD channel. Buffalo Sabres action in HD! Now we have that, Fox Business News HD and Fox News Channel HD are now the two HD channels I want the most. More HD is always good, but I could careless about USA HD or SciFi HD at this time.

Both networks offer original programming and original movies. Full time? No. But nor do most other cable networks.
There's nothing more annoying than watching something in SD when you know it's available in HD. Sometimes I'll even wait for a DVD release just because I can't stand "broadcast SD" quality.
I couldn't care less about sports networks. |
