<description><![CDATA[<A HREF="/useremail/u/645263"><b>davidg</b></A> : sweet tea should have 2 cups of sugar to each gallon of tea made. the sugar MUST be added while the tea is still hot so that it disolves in properly. adding sugar/sweetener to tea after it is iced and you get one drink sweetened, the next not. <br><br>we use 3 family sized bags per gallon using a tea maker. if we have the small bags we used 5-6 of them and set the maker on strong brew. <br><br>we did switch to unsweetened tea several months back and that is all we make at home now. if i go to a restaurant that i KNOW makes good sweet tea i order sweet, if i am not sure i order unsweet. i cannot stand sweet tea that was not properly prepared/sweetened.<br><small>--<br>Lack of Preparation on YOUR Part does NOT Constitute an Emergency on Mine!</small>]]></description>

Backing off in proportion would keep the same sweetness, but weaker lemonade.  :(  ]]></description>

(bring to boil)<br><br>Once to a full rolling boil, shut off heat, and add 4 "family size" tea bags (you know, what the instructions say... ;) ), and let steep for a few minutes.<br><br>Pour over ice cubes, and dilute to 1 gal.<br><br>THEN, mix 2 cups "Real Lemon", 2 cups sugar, enough water to make a gallon.  (Excellent lemonade on its own)<br><br>Mix equal portions lemonade and tea --&gt; mmmmmmmmm  :D]]></description>

While it is responsible for the coloration of the tea, it also can make a tea bitter or chalky. So it is good to know how few tea leaves I can get away with. This is one of the reasons that I feel 'sun tea' is far superior to other methods of brewing. Another factor that can change the amount of tea leaves needed is the blend used. For instance, with a Darjeeling, I would use about two thirds the amount as I would with most other blends of tea leaves. And so on....]]></description>
