| iphone with new Videotron cell service?
AS it seems Videotron will be announcng late this year the launch of their new cell service, I'm wondering which of the big carriers' network they'll be using? Bell or Rogers? If it is indeed Rogers network they will be piggybacking on, would this mean that videotron cell subscribers could use a hacked iphone on the new Videotron network? That would be sweet....! |

| They are already with Rogers, and yes it should work normally, since they don't seem to make a security check with the IMEI.
However, it's possible that some of the phone functions won't be accessible.
And even if you have a phone from elsewhere, you have to buy a phone from them with your contract, and the waranty is only with the phone you took from them. |

  on their own
@videotron.ca | Yup they are already with Rogers. But from what I read they are supposed be going solo this year. |

@tdscom.com | If they win the spectrum auction this year, they said they would have their own network up and running within 18 months (that is late 2009, early 2010). Until then, they are using Rogers' network. |

| reply to voiper This is what I was talking about-not the current agreement they have to re-sell Rogers phones and plans, but with their own solo service (assuming they win the auction which is pretty much assured). At that point, will it be the rogers network they'll be piggybacking, or bell? Thanks for the explanation that they want their own within 2 years. Let's say they're on Rogers for 2 years and then implement their own. In that case iphone would work for the 2 years and then....zip? Thanks for the replies... |

In theory, it should still work, since they will continue to use GSM technology. |

The new spectrum isn't supported by phones in use today, that means Videotron users will have to roam on Rogers even with the new network up and running unless they have a phone equipped with the right radio. -- Conservatives define themselves in terms of what they oppose. ---George Will |
